Science of speed uses oem nsx lma, modified to fit b series. I always choose oem when I can. Skunk2 makes it themself. Also skunk2 was on back order. Kind of made the choice easy.

Ok good to know - yeah for something like that I would want oem as well

I picked up my head from Phil(my head specialist) yesterday.

We really decided to work it over this time. It was also a perfect time to test a few theories we have. The biggest of which is that you don't need to oversize the exhaust valves when you oversize the intake. The reason for this is because the intake to exhaust valve diameter ratio is already very large on the exhaust side when in comparison to other types of heads out there.

What we ended up doing was putting in +1mm oversize intake valves. We also upgraded the exhaust valves to stainless steel though to better handle the heat, because the OEM ones were getting rocked by the heat. After we decided on what valves to use, Phil worked his magic.

Phil was actually able to get the oversize valves to be lighter than my old valves. My old valves were dished out(lightened) OEM valves, which makes it amazing. He did this by actually making his own valves from blanks made by SI valves. He then dished them out as well and balanced them all as well. Then he backcut the valves and radiased the seats.

We kept the same valve spring set up which proved itself to be amazing so far. It consists of Ovate Conical Beehive springs wound by SI valves. They are paired with custom Chromoly retainers, because Chromoly retainers are more consistent with weight and makes them easier to balance the valve train.

The NSX lost motion assembly matches the valve springs quite well.

OEM goodness. Nothing special though, just maintenance items and finally putting the Type R throttle cable on instead of using my rigged up GSR one.

It was suggest by Tom Attack that I might have a leaking fuel injector a while back. I blew off this theory at first, but after I had the head off it was clear that I may in fact have had a leaking injector, maybe even two. That made it a perfect time to upgrade to the RDX injectors. I have been wanting to do that for a while but couldn't justify a retune just for injectors.

Just some maintenance items. I will be using the same fluids again. I really like how the main and rod bearing wear looks after using the Brad Penn, so I will be sticking with it. My inner ricer broke through and wanted me to get a JDM cluster for that 10k tachometer. The yellow will also match the yellow on my new Momo MOD.08 steering wheel.

It is no secret that the exhaust that was on the car before was a major restriction. Since the car will be needing a tune again, I figured I might as well upgrade the complete exhaust set up. I decided on the Skunk2 Alpha header, a 2.5 inch test pipe, and the Skunk2 Megapower RR catback system. It should flow very nicely now.

I do not have any pictures of the header, because I am trying to get a custom skid plate made for it, but that is proving to be a difficult task. That means I may have to make it myself, which I was trying to avoid since time is limited these days.

Here is the collector size of my old header to give you an idea just how choked my motor was.

The 2.5 inch collector on the Skunk2 Alpha should flow a lot better. The whole header design will be a big bonus in general.

That is all I have for now, but there will be more to come this week. The goal is to get her back up and running within the next week or so. It is hard to do though, because I am 100 miles away from where it is being stored.

That's a nice polished head you have there.

Im in to see the number difference on the tune

It actually doesn't have any polishing, but thanks. Polishing the ports does nothing and can even hurt your power in some cases.

I couldn't even guess what the gains will be, because I am changing almost every restricting factor I had with my last setup. Who knows how much it was really being choked off.

Yeah man. I figure that would be my gain too, but I am not even factoring in the bigger/lighter valves or how well my port job will work now that it can breath. Those are an unknown amount. Hell I could gain nothing from it. Lol

Thanks guys. I have the car almost completely assembled now(Pics won't come till later in the week). I am still waiting on a few little things though and then it will be ready to rock. I also decided I am going to wait until I get to the tuner before I put the injectors in. I figured making a 120 mile hike wouldnt be a good idea with the RDX injectors. My car will be out of tune enough as it is.
