Supercharged or Turbo?

Turbo. IMO If youre a student neither is worth the money if its strictly a DD.

If you're not going for really high numbers, just a peppy F/I daily, I'd go with a Jackson Racing or a Kraftwerks(JR and Skunk 2's collaboration) supercharger kit. The 8psi kit is fine for stock motors with proper fuel system and tuning.

And will definitely put some pep in your step. Also makes a great conversation piece at car shows, you don't see them often on hondas

I have actually wonderingn the same thing for a while now. Are superchargers easeir on the lower end of the engine? I have been considering goin F/I on my db2 buts a dd so i dont want anything that has a good chance or blowing up. A little risk is ok though ;)

Superchargers and turbochargers do the exact same thing as far as the motor "feels". They both compress air an push it into the motor. They are just powered in a different manner. Turbos are powered by exhaust gas and superchargers by a belt driven by the crank. Both system's reliability is determined by the quality of parts, install, and tuning.

But isn't a supercharger gonna get you power in the lower rpms?
Turbo leads to not really any prespool power casue the engine needs to get going to start the effect so from my understanding a super will get you power faster...but not as much. Sort of like RAM versus Cold air intakes I guess.
Correct me if I'm wrong

you are correct. turbos have "turbo lag" because they need the exhaust to spin the turbine faster to start making boost. superchargers are constantly making boost. (from MY understsanding)

Yes that is correct. just like he explained "turbo lag" the smaller turbine turbo will spool quicker than a larger turbine but either one will have a lag. also the superchargers a known to have the supercharger whine.

Exactly. Either system will depend on the quality of everything used.

Yes and no. A roots style, positive displacement blower, like the ones used in Jackson Racing kits, will provide instantaneous boost and a much more meaty low end.

Centrifugal superchargers, like those used by Vortech, are essentially a belt driven turbocharger geared the turbine can achieve the RPM it needs to make boost. They do not make instantaneous boost. They do tend to be a little more linear than a turbo due to the differences in design and operation, but they are not anything like a positive displacement blower.

Wow this thread cleared alot of things up for me. I think im going to get a jackson supercharger within the next few months now. So since supercharges just run off a belt, do i need to get an intercooler and all that stuff like I would if i used a turbo?

"So while intercoolers work well on higher output superchargers, they are not recommended for lower boost level kits, like an average 6psi street kit. If you're looking for exceptional performance from your engine, consider adding an intercooler to your engine, or consider purchasing a supercharger kit that comes with an intercooler. Most ATI ProCharger systems include intercoolers and still remain very reasonably priced. Paxton has also recently introduced several intercoolers to fit their more popular supercharger systems, while Vortech already includes intercoolers with several kits. Good luck with your intercooling endeavors, wherever they may take you!"

turbo is fun!! best part about driving the sti!! 3700rpm and boom!! 410whp to the wheels and the work is in the dust! I have been is a friends sc gsr and it feels really nice, he has 280whp and the boost kicks in really fast and the car feels amazing!
