No sales tax in N.H., SilverDB8. :headbang: we have property taxes through the roof instead. :(

Yeah, I was an installer for 3 years, teggyls. Although, I've had medium/big systems in every car I've ever owned (that's 8 cars over 13 years), all installed by me. Except for my first car, my dad helped me out a little. :thumbs up

Good news tonight, got an email telling me my sub shipped out today! I want to actually have posession of the sub before I build the box.
I found a good looking site that has nice prices on random things you need to do installs. I'm gonna buy some carpet, spray adhesive, terminal cups, a few other useful things like velcro, zip ties, ect. www.sjgreatdeals.com - Enter American Terminal in the search field and you'll see all the cool little stuff they sell. Best prices I could find on the internet for American Terminal product too, better than Ebay on most things.

What overheats, the system or the car?

No way, not yet. This is gonna be a project spread over a month or 2. It's not gonna be in my car and done until the second half of April. I'm having a dent removed in my rear pass. quarter and they need to get at the backside of the panel to fix it, so I can't have anything in the way. They're fixing that dent and all the windstorm damage April 17th.

capacitor or a stronger battery.

i havent done either.

I got 2 10s with a mono 1 ch jbl amp and my lights dim at idle, but driving they are fine. So i figure feck it i might burn up batteries a little bit faster but oh well

Yeah I can help, teggyls.
Some things you can do to eliminate dimming:
-Have your alternator beefed up. THIS GUY is the man at that service, he's in Riverside California. An old roommate of mine bought a monster ass alternator off him for his CRX's system. It put out like 150amps. But he can improve stock units, too.
-Aftermarket battery, like an Optima.
-Capacitor, but you'll never be able to jump start your or anyone else's car again, it'll explode.
-Replace/upgrade your factory grounds, they may be corroded on an older car and not doing a great job anymore. Hmmm, now that I think of it, this is something I should do. :rolf:
-Stop using amps that draw more amperage than the factory electrical system to able to supply. :) Which is about 100 amps max.

July Update

WooHoo! I'm finally gonna get moving again on this new setup. So much crap has happened between February and now I haven't had a chance to do anything. For the last 2-3 months in particular it's been rain, rain, rain around here, we're talking record setting amounts of rain. :x

Next step, build the sub box, and cut the two panels to mount my 2 amps to. Picking up tomorrow:
One 3X2.5 ft. sheet of 3/4 inch MDF, for the box.
One 4X2.5 ft. sheet of 1/4 inch MDF, for the 2 panels.

Tomorrow, I'm only gonna have time to cut all the pieces, then I need to watch my sisters kid for a couple hours. As long as it's not raining on Friday afternoon, I'll put the box together and carpet it then.

i found these interesting... is it really true that the capacitor "blows up" if you jump start a car or anyone's elses' car? i never knew that... kinda the pros and cons of having it... i guess

GL with the custom enclosure :thumbs up take pics when you're done

Oh yeah, it can happen. It's not guaranteed to happen but it can. It happened to a BMW we did an install on at the shop I used to work at. He said he jump started a car and it happened. Maybe the guy just touched positive to negative or something, but the cap blew up all over his amps. When all that happened, I was actually in the process of buying all the items I needed for my next stereo install, and I had already bought a 1 farad cap, a Phoenix Gold cap with a digital voltage display on the top. I sold it after I saw that happen to that Beamer.

Anyway, I cut the pieces for the box today. I couldn't cut the panels for the amps cuz the lame ass lumberyard I went to didn't have MDF in 1/4 inch thickness. :x I'll put this box together first, then try and find some at another lumberyard. I'll snap pics of the box construction process.
