I don't think you have to worry about anything once the first nuke goes off. Anybody who isn't killed in the initial explosion will have to deal with the radiation. Or you know, all of the other Nukes fired by everybody with a nuke. -_-

hmm how many nuclear devices have exploded vs volcano's? i don't think its dust we have to worry about considering radiation fallout!

Humanity could still survive the fallout and initial explosions. Its the dust in the long run that will hang around for a long time killing the majority of photosynthesized life and making one hell of a time for us.
