To be honest I think Jason makes a very good point. I've kind of been desensitized to the word, as i'm sure many others are. I never really thought that it might offend someone. Heck, I say it every five seconds when i'm typing on the internet. I'm not even sure why, it just seems to pop up on the screen. So if I offended anyone by saying fuck, i'm sorry. I'm not promising I will stop saying it, or any other "swear" words, but I will keep it to a minimum if I can manage.

when i see f every other word i imagine some shack that is painted poorly with a wooden screen door that slaps hard and loud when it shuts(and hangs to the side just barely) with a kid inside wearing clothes so big that he has to keep adjusting them (but hes so cool because of them) typing away on the interweb trying to sound "fly"
So that's what you think of me huh Rachel?
For your information I wear a belt, and clothes that fit. :thumbs up

You would not like to see my Facebook Jason. 90% of my "Status Updates" are about my Integra, and most of them containing the word "Fuck." Sometimes multiple times. :???:
That's something a few of you have to live with though, or hide my posts on Facebook. Lol. :x

I'll admit I have let the word slip a few times... Maybe more often than necessary but there's only few select people I've known I'm my life that provoke such language. If it offends anyone here then id gladly choose my words more wisely next time.

I try not to swear unless it warranted, that way it has more impact and feels better when you DO do it. I went through periods when I was younger where the F-Bomb's and others would fly alot, but then I noticed it didn't feel as good when I did say it when I said it all the time. So I cut back, then your friends/co-workers know you mean it when you swear. Plus, swearing alot is kinda low class in general, particularly when done in the wrong place - loudly in public, in front of mom, on camera in front of the world like 1000's of shameless reality show people do.

I'm very against cursing in polite society. In country, fuck it. In the field for a week, fuck it. There's a time and place for aggressive language and since the internet "isn't" censored people sling words around like it's nothing.

i got other stuff to worry about than about the way someone types or talks. if i hear it or read it, it doesnt really bother me alsong as they dont say it every other work just to be cool.

do what now?
If a persons cusses in public and my family is with me i'll tell them to tone it down. But if im by my self I could care less.

I don't use the word "fuck" a lot, I prefer "cunt" or "douchebag"

people use "fuck" too freely, so I've stepped it up a notch.

Now, do I use them in public? Not really, unless I'm driving and someone pisses me off. I'll call them a fucking cunt. And I make damn sure they hear me :)

FYI- i stopped reading on page 2 so idk if i missed anything lol

i can agree on both sides, but Jason is right.

its about respecting others and conveying a positive image not just for your self, but for this site as well.

I am guilty of cursing a little too often on here and verbally, ill try and cool it down.

I have less problem with people throwing around the word "fuck" than "God damn". GD gets to me more. To this day I can throw fuck around in the presence of my dad and grandpa with no problem. If I said GD in front of either of them, I'd get wrapped on the back of the head, and I'm damn near 25.

Really? Wow, like others have said its a word. Its no different then all the other "cuss words", in fact I think it sometimes takes an F bomb to get a point across. For instance lets look at the following statements and you tell me which one sounds more intense

You sir are an idiot

You sir are a fucking idiot

Its just letters on a screen my man, has nothing to do with the level of education one has or doesn't have. I have heard my college professors drop an F bomb during lectures, doesn't change my opinion of them one bit.
Yep, really. It does have an impact on how people look at you. I didnt quote the other comment of yours, but it was in regards to class. Not in terms of where you rank in society, but of how you are perceived by others. If I am walking down a road and some one is dropping tons of F bombs, do I think "Oh, that fine fellow over there, what a nice gentleman he must be." Certainly not. Not saying he is a complete retard, but he isnt some one I would approach and say, will you be my friend? The words you use show how classy you are. I sure hope you professors werent saying them on purpose and apologizing afterwards. I would certainly not look at them the same if they believed I thought it was appropriate for them to say things like that.

Using a different word has just has a different saying but has the same meaning, Like saying "freak" instead of "fuck", So why not say it if you mean it?
I bet you most of the people that use that word on here are pissed off about there car.
Why is there is problem using synonyms? I would say "My freaking car broke down on me again" before I say "My F'ing car broke down on me again." Time and place for everything. When I am in the VIP chat thread, the newbie chat thread, I dont get bothered. People are chatting it up, they are talking between each other as friends, as many of the tenured members have become. Thats different than a thread title/request for help, which is what this thread is more directed at.

For some people it's just a matter of habit.
I know first hand from working with my father and other contractors that it's a part of the regular vocabulary - working with any contractor for a day is like going to cussing class for a term or two, depending on how long they've been working. I use it quite a bit and find that more often than not it helps to convey a message quite well - sometimes with passion, depending on how well you can use it. Yes it is a word, and some people don't like it - but you have to consider the day and age in which we live. People still expect chivalry and well-mannered behaviour even though most of that fancy stuff died out long ago.

In the end it's all opinion, and to each their own.. but you do have to realise that things change and it's only human instinct to evolve with the times, even if it's not in your agenda. Many people (myself included) who use the f bomb consistently in everyday vocabulary are also highly educated, qualified, and well brought up. When the time comes to act that way it is completely possible, but social standards and meanings are different from one group to another.

tl;dr - I drop f bombs a lot, but I'm also not a hillbilly - I can socialise like the royal family if need be. Some people just use it to express themselves, and if that's too much for you to handle, ignore them.
It may not say you are not a productive, well educated person, but it shows your class. When you walk into McDonalds, you dont say "I want to order a fucking hamburger." You say "I want to order a hamburger." If I am standing behind some one who drops the F bomb in that, then he turns around and introduces himself to me, I wouldnt be thinking this guy is some one I want to hang around with. There is a time and place for things, and a thread title, in my opinion, is not one for F bombs, or in threads requesting help and the sort. This isnt you hanging out with your friends, chumming it up. You are asking strangers for help. The least you can do is show some respect.

And when I say "you" I mean in the broadest sense, not you actually.

I find it to be a very versatile word. I grew up playing hockey, we said fuck, called people shit show, and said eh nearly as often as we took breaths. Mind you, there was a place and time for it.
Frankly, in today's world you're not going to avoid the word fuck for more than a few hours unless you live in a monastery or convent.
Personally, I use it often because it's a vivid word that gets peoples attention and accentuates a given point. This however, does not work when every third word you say is "fuck".

Edit: If the mods/Admin start censoring posts for the word fuck or they adopt a "thumper rule", I'm throwing in the towel. Not that they'd care.
I already made it through kindergarten, I don't need someone trying to make me be nice.
And Im sure I was at many games although I did not realize you were you. Hockey is an aggressive sport, and i wouldnt say things would be any different for others like football. My opinion is more regarding open threads requesting/seeking help and guidance, as I mentioned just above. Probably should have been more specific with that as I have seen a few people thinking I was targeting them. I'm sure I have said it a few times out of my 8000+ posts, but it certainly is not something I say very much, unless I have been drinking.

Time and place for everything.
Well where do you hear these words the most at? I hear them all the time on Xbox Live and mostly around older adults (40s and older). It all depends on where these people hang out at whether it is the bar, school, or online. You can not stop people from using vulgar language because it is everywhere. If you were to filter these words then others may want other words to censored/removed all together such as gay, fat, ugly, slut etc. Maturity is the answer to the usage of these words. When one is mature they know the time and place to use such language. Dun dun dun!
I mute everyone on xbox live, unless they are my friends. There is too much nonsense and racism from kids trying to be cool and show off to their friends. Thats my way of silencing them. Time and place is the overarching idea.

I use it around close friends, or when I am pretty frustrated, but I muffle myself when anyone is around. The F word is just a very strong word. I dont mean to have this thread come across as "this offends me and it must stop," but I think it was rather odd that it started popping up, and often in the past week or two.

Haha, good thing I dont get in facebook much then.

Thats why so many people are keyboard warriors. They think the internet gives them absolute anonymity. Certainly isnt the case for this website, but there are so many others that people could care less what they said because they dont have to face the person on the other end.

Thanks Tyler. I dont think I have seen any time you cursed, and I hope you dont think I am shaking a stick at you saying "No more!" Just pointing a flashlight at something trying to get others opinions on it.

Im not asking anyone to go Mormon on here and change their ways. Im just bringing attention as to what I think is not a nice friendly atmosphere for all (disregarding the occasional trolling on some pretty dumb threads). Im not the police, and I dont have any legitimate power in controlling what you do. My sole power is the right to protest, and thats pretty much just avoiding threads like that, which I often do.

I see that although people may not completely agree with what I say, they understand the idea of what this thread was about. As I have said a dozen times or so now, time and place for everything.

Thanks for the opinions.
