Not to threadjack but just to clear up my previous responses if I was mis-understood.
It's not beating on it. Once you make sure the a/f ratios are steady you want to get the cylinder pressure up high enough and put enough stress on the motor to cause your pistons and rings to expand. Yes the best way to do this for break-in is on a load bearing dyno (like a dyna-pak) but the good old fashioned way is to find a big hill, put it in 2nd, 3rd, whatever, and floor it up it. You don't have to ride the limiter and beat on it, just make a few good passes up the hill. It's the best way to seat rings.
