Yes.
The DET has:
-oil squirter piston coolers
-a bigger oil pump.
-a different front pulley.
-lower compression pistons (8.3:1 vs 9.5:1).
-bigger injectors.
-direct ignition.
-a variable intake cam, runs retarded at idle, advanced mid range and retarded top end.
-mechanical shim in bucket type lifters with a slightly bigger in duration exhaust cam.

Everything is interchangeable though between the two motors. You are saving time, I don't know about money, either way it's not a bad way to go. Just some fyi.
Cool thanks for the info Greg. Yea i'm definitely saving time and i guess the owner of the car is getting a pretty good deal on the motor so idk about saving money but it's not mine being spent anyways. :lol: If i have any problems with this swap you'll be the first person i come to now that you presented yourself as being a nissan guy....you set yourself up haha.

bump!! Got some progress done i know the pics don't say much, but we made the wiring harness for his gauges ahead of time and installed it and the gauges short of actually plugging everything in. My buddy who's helping me with this loves electrical so he made this harness. The 200sx owner is running Autometer boost/vac, oil pressure, and a AEM UEGO wideband on a 3 gauge pillar. Just thought i'd throw up the pics we took of the harness and stuff. We drilled a hole in his firewall next to his main harness and fit a nice grommet in there. I thought it looked really good. Engine is on it's way should be here in the next few days.

***weekend Update***

Well Friday afternoon my dad called me and said a big crate showed up at his work :D. The engine arrived along with the downpipe, intercooler, flywheel, clutch, and a few other things. The engine is actually an Avanier...i guess it has a ball bearing turbo and judging by the fact that it's water cooled it might be. This Avanier engine is really becoming a hassle though. There are a few things that need to be modified to get this engine to work in the 200sx. The project is definitely challenging and becoming a big learning experience...just what I figured and hoped for :) Here are some pics....

..intercooler piping and ecu are on their way if any of you were wondering.

Hey, Project Car Magazine did this swap + a lot of other extras, so if you want to see how they did it, go buy the magazine. I'd just buy a backorder. Google Primedia Back orders or something.

They time-attacked their SR20DET swapped Sentra, and put down over 300whp on the dyno I think

All Garrett T25's are watercooled. Whether it's ball bearing or not depends on the year model. It is definitely from an Avenir though, they are the only SR20DET's with a silver valvecover. The 97+ Avenir are also the only SR20DET's that had the ball-bearing T25

Atleast you didn't buy a complete sway and get that engine, they're only came AWD w/ and auto tranny
Very cool. Turbo looks bigger then the stock t25.
All SR20DET's from the Nissan Avenirs came with a Garrett T25 stock.

The silver valve cover only adds to the sleeper appeal. If it were my car, i'd leave the valve cover silver, and then just lower the car, and leave it on hubcaps. Stock-looking 14second Sentra! Woot Woot! :lol:

Thanks for the info Kyle. The shop the owner of the car got the engine from said it has a ball bearing turbo but who knows. I don't really care as long as it runs and runs well and then it's out my door lol. And yes this Avenir had an auto tranny on it because we had to take out the bushing that was in the crank and replace it with the proper pilot bushing for the manual trans.
