ran the 1/0awg power wire today and ordered my new amp and subs :). also ran 12 gauge speaker wire to the crossovers and ran the new kicker rca's

so just having the new wire made the subs a lot louder; i am not sure why, id guess because the amp can draw more power? i was able to turn the gain up higher than ever before they started bottoming out. i am having to drill holes in the doors to run the speaker wire in. ill get some new pics when i can. also did some more dynamat in the trunk.

Wow, I wouldn't think you'd see THAT much of a difference unless you were going from very small and low quality/large strand wire to correctly sized quality/small starnd wire. Smaller strands are better because electricity travels along the outer surface of wire, not through the middle. So, many small strands will carry more electricity than fewer, larger diameter strands because there's more outer surface area for the juice to travel across.

Oh god, what a pain in the ass that was for me. The OEM boot is basically impossible to run wire through, speaker wire anyway, unless you want to take the whole damn door off and get right in there. I decided to drill my own holes too. So I'm drilling, and when the bit finally caught and went through the metal, the bit was going so fast I couldn't take my finger off the trigger in time to stop it and it hit my outer door panel on the inside. You can see the reverse dimple on the outside. I did it to both doors, even when I was trying to be careful the second time it happened again. So be careful of that when your drilling.

it drilled thru fine, i used a short drill bit to prevent that from happening. lol. here are some update pictures.

good stuff. is there any disadvantages to using 1/0 ga? in my last car i rewired all 4 speakers with 12 ga kicker wires, had 4 ga power/ground (kicker), and kicker rca's. all pushing a single L7 with a zx750.1 amp. i need to purchase a wiring kit for the del sol, and want to not have to do it again. i was thinking about running 1/0 ga but my current system does not "need" it. only 880 rms (according to the birthsheet)

The only disadvantage is....how do you plug a 0 guage wire into an amp? An amp company isn't going to make their power wire input smaller than the amp requires, and I don't know of any amp that has a 0 guage power wire input. The maximum size of the power wire input of an amp is the maximum size it needs.

my amp has 1/0 gauge inputs :). personally if you can afford the 1/0 gauge, there is no reason not to get it. just run a distribution block before the amps have 4 gauge going into them if you have to. if you are going to do that though, you might as well bump up the alternator and all the other wires

i see i see. i think im just going to run 4ga hyperflex again. that was some good wire. now, i have blown 2 alternators on my last car with this system. i turned down the gain and bought a voltmeter to keep an eye on it so i would know when to let off an let the system rest/recharge. . will a cap help with this? or will i just suck more power and make the alt work even harder?

kicker hyper flex is the best wire you can buy; so good choice there. i have 2 alternators if you need one, so hit me up. a cap will help, but only to an extent. running the stock alternator, i didnt have more than .3v drop using a 2 farad cap. which im selling for 75 bucks btw

is the alternator different from b series to d series? i would think the plugs would be the same as long as the obd is the same
