i wish i had L lenses for that extra crispness. Viewing anything at 100% reveals plenty of horror.

I read a tip that described the same method Aussie mentioned for lenses that dont have an infinity mark. It suggested dialing it back just a tiny bit after turning all the way. Any comments on that?

I wouldn't guess, if you focus at something like I said it will be at infinity, then just take a ruler and colored sharpie and mark the focus ring to line up with the focal length mark.

I ask cus when I tried it it did 'seem' in better focus. That was the the idea behind he tip but I only tested it a few times.

Rachel you don't have to buy a new lens to take advantage of the infinity focus. Do what Aussie suggested. It works. Ill link a site where I first learned about it that has a ton of great info. It's helped me understand a LOT and applied already.

Here's the page specific to what i read. It may take a few times and trial to get it but nothing I've read was absorbed 100% just reading it once. I've pretty much looked at all 9 pages.

Nikon doesn't have an infinity ring or an L lens. I'm looking into getting another lens soon tho. Not too sure what to get.

There's prob a way to do it. Have u looked it up? I think I came across it but I don't memorize the Nikon tips. Lol

That site's encouraged metl try bird photography. Haha


My last pics are just about uploaded to my page from the expo. Until my next event ill only have special fx/themed edits to as which will prob go in the editing thread.

If the your focus at infinity isn't a hard stop, as in you crank the focus ring all the way left, it's usually a bit backed off from there like you said. That's why backing it off a little will work, but if you don't know exactly where it is, you're just guessing.

There may be some kit Nikon lenses that don't have a focus scale on them, same with other brands, but all lenses focus to infinity, and if you buy better quality Nikon or "insert whatever other brand here" lenses they will have a focus scale on them.

It's not as big a deal during the day when you can see, but at night it's tough.

Cool. Just wanted to confirm the method with others after playing with it.

My kit lens doesn't have it either but my other lens does. So there's two things you can do. Turn it yourself. The second also helps if you're not sure which way to turn cus you can see what the lens does. Focus on a close object then focus on something far away. That will show you whih direction it moves and will also put you at infinity. I verified by method one and then focusing far and it didn't move or barely moved so I was in the right direction. I did this or a few shots at the track but didn't want to risk losing potentially good shots so I have some practice experimenting to do still. The article I linked describes how bird photographes use infinity focus. Awesome read.

Went to the Chronicles Year V by Stickydiljoe about 2 weeks ago. Don't feel like making a thread of my coverage so I guess I'll be posting the pictures in here little bit at a time since I'm overwhelmed with school and work and have no time to edit haha
