letting your car warm up

I let it idle for about 2 to 5 minutes, depending on how much texting I have to do and how cold it is. Then I don't really push it above 3k rpm till it's warmed for a little bit

I was in the McDonalds drive through line one afternoon and watched a young kid just leaving McDonalds. He hops in this Cobalt SS (brand new with temp tags), fires it up and IMMEDIATELY red lines it. It runs hard for about 7 seconds and then goes POP and a little smoke rolls out from underneath the hood......go luck on getting the warranty on that. You could see the oil running out from underneath it lol.
Take it easy on them when first starting kids.:)
He has a Supercharger, so it's a bigger deal for him to let it warm up. Also, if he only let it set for a little bit, then he should have still been pretty warm.

5 seconds, Obviously you shouldn't mash on it right after a cold start but this isn't 1965 anymore you are just wasting gas idling for 5 minutes.

A good way to tell if your car is warmed up, is during the summer turn on your ac and when it starts to blow cold that's a sign that your car is warmed up enough to drive. During the winter it's the same thing. I wait for my heater to blow warm air.

this.

I thought i had read in the manual that it doesnt need to be warmed hardly at all, but couldnt find it today when i went back to look. im always taking off under 30 seconds & baby it until near or at operating temp.

I'm not sure about your guy's cars. But my temp gauge takes what seems like forever to reach operating temp. I have an '01 GSR. Is that normal?

yea it goes the same with turbo cars too, you have to let the oil and motor get a little warm before you start punching the gas. If it was a rotary motor then i would let it fully warm up cause those motors loves hot weathers (correct me if i am wrong)

Yea i usually wait for my rpms to go down, and 5mins aint gonna waste that much gas....definately when it saves my cars ass in the end

If you have an older car, early gen3 and before.. 3 minutes tops, drive normal til it warms up.. theres your 2 extra minutes. Any newer car isnt going to need 3 minutes even. Just drive normal.. the ecu wont allow you to mash throttle anyway. Like someone said.. its not 1965. Sitting there for 5 minutes is a waste of gas (i dont care how little) and time.

If when you say forever, you mean like an hour or almost never, then your thermostat is stuck open/closed. Replace that right away.

I'd say a good 30 minutes or so. Thanks for the suggestion. I will be changing my thermostat ASAP.
