Would this work as a Sub?

in my old da, i had a jvc headunit, and pioneer speakers all around, then i wired up my amp to my jbl 12 inch subs. It sounded much louder than my friends stock speakers and stock head unit in his mustang, and it cost me 17 bucks lol. But I think you might need some more cash to be able to have a decent sounding system.. but thats just my view on it. GL

heres the cheapest setup you could possibly have, which i have
by chance, find a 12 inch sub (jensen xs12) at a garage sale for $20, talk to your cousin who has some 3/4 inch plywood laying around and a bunch of screws and make your own box. go to a pawn shop and pick up an amp for $40 (pioneer 240 watts max output, nothing special, just enough to get the job done). go to home depot and buy some 14 gauge speaker wire (i got 40 ft for 1/2 price @ $0.14/ft), and some 12 gauge extension cable wire (8 ft @ $0.61/ft), this cost me $11. get lucky and have the rest of the wires laying around in some boxes (i only needed 2 rather long rca cables and some thin wire to act as the signal wire). some spraypaint for the box is another $4. get an aftermarket head unit (naxa) for christmas, and install everything in your garage

total investment=$75 and start to bumpin time about 6 hours. this includes mearsuing and making the box, drive time to different stores and the wiring. i still have to paint the box, and hide the wires

the amp is underneath the passanger seat and the sub is in the trunk

if you have any questions about the install, let me know and i will be glad to help

yeah dude you need and amp and most likely youll need a aftermarket head unit. i use a sony xplod, its real cheap and works good. Also if you go used an amp aint too expensive, i got a set of two 10' subs and a amp for around a hundred dollars. they were kickers too

Real Good!
also, would you recommend getting a better radio other than the stock one? is there much of a difference or would the stock one be fine? i already installed 4 new aftermarket speakers...
xplodes are junk, throwing your money in the trash. i had one a sold it for $40 with two boxes they where worth more than the sub itself lol
i HAVE a pioneer cd player that would work GREAT FOR YOU $60 Shipped

youll need an amp. youll pop fuses.
yeah no amp=no sub no point basically unless u buy a more expensive deck where they sometimes have a spot to hook up a sub straight from the deck.

no amp= no thump in trunk bro...
it would have been better to source some used system stuff from guys around your area. $80 could have gotten something off with some good negotiating.
def hit up CraigsList

12 gauge extension cable wire (8 ft @ $0.61/ft)
plywood? hahaha get that if you want your box to fall apart lol make sure your box is made for your subs, no point of screwing pieces of wood together if it sounds like sht, might aswell thro the damn subs in the trunk with no box youll have better luck with that
"extension cable"? yup if YOU WANT YOUR CAR TO BURN DOWN get that too

sry but what you posted has some bad advice

At the end you need some decent amount of $$ to get a decent system running and do it SAFELY
$200 is cutting it tight but still a good place to start if you get everything used
make sure to put a fuse on the power wire to the amp, dont want it to melt the wire and then do more damage

So it seems that my xplod sub and home made box are not good enough for this forum. Funny as firebirdnation.com thought it was cool.

I would have to agree with what Beatbox said.

And just throwing this out there, I believe the fuse on your power wire to the amp should be within a couple inches of your battery. (Just so you know.)

yeah about a ft from the battery, for the most part when you buy a kit they already have the fuse on the right spot. def will save your car from alot of head aches incase something is ever to go wrong

ya if the dudes only got like 80 bucks, save another 80 and get a decent head unit. start from there.

theres a lot more in a sub than the casual person thinks about.

i mean...itll bump sure, but it probably wont be crisp. personally never heard of Visonik. also looks like the kit doesnt include RCAs. which you will need. and im preeeeety sure the oem radio doesnt have sub outputs, which means you would need a new head unit. its really worth your time to pay for a good head unit. theres obviously a lot of user interaction and it determines how good the rest of your system can actually be.

I wanna say mine was 70ish for some better quality stuff. im sure you can find cheap junk, but again i wouldnt slack with those seeing as how they are literally the cables that carry your sound to the sub

they look like this:
