We got it running again.....
It was never explained in this thread so.....
STORY:
We got that clutch, so last week, we started tearing into it. We got the axles off (finally, those were such a B*tch) we got the trans off (dropped it on my bro's hand, Ouch!) and then we called it a night.
Next day, we took the stock pressure plate & clutch disk off. Then we slid the new clutch disk and pressure plate on, without a clutch alignment tool, it looked like we had it aligned after dicking around with it. So then we stuck the "new" clutch's pressure plate on, and then we followed it up by lifting the tranny back up and slid it together with a little motivation and bolted it back up. Then we stuck the axles back in, stuck the balljoints back on, and then stopped there.
Next day, we triple checked everything and re-tightened all the bolts, and I also installed the MBC that was given to us a few days before. I left to work, and my brother finished up and test drove it. Here's what happened:
Started it for about 2mins, left it running. Then he pulled it out of the driveway, and got about 10 feet, then he heard a "pooomng" noise. And then it wouldn't move anymore. So he pushed it back, and we've left it in the garage for almost a week now.
BUT, last night, we tore into it again, and discovered something very silly. The axle had popped out.
Either we didn't stick it in all the way last time, or it had popped out on it's own.... So I took some pictures to tell.......
Then, we pulled the ball joint back off, and took the axles back off for a little inspection. And, I don't think this end of the axle is supposed to be ground down like this. Isn't it supposed to be splined like the rest of it?
Anyways, we got the axle back in with a LOT of shoving, and it slid in as far as we could get it. Which looked like it was good. So we stuck everything back on, and took it for a little test drive, and it worked GREAT! Clutch still works, drove fine. No more grinding gears when shifting, and all.
Then we stuck the front bumper back on and went to sleep Happy. :woot:
