Street tune or dyno tune?

I didn't read all the replies but there is only one accurate way of tuning and that is on a dyno. It's the only true way you can hit every section of your a/f matrix. Your either tuning off the MAF or the TPS and either way it can only be accomplished quickly and safely on a dyno.

It also allows you to safely tune your ignition timing so you can see when to stop advancing as there is no longer any power gain.

When people try and street tune they have a tendency to interpolate the missing areas of the matrix, while this works most of the time, it isn't accurate.

Well put, and as true as it gets, the butt dyno doesn't prove anything except your warped perception of reality and an enhanced plecibo effect due to "jdm" mods. If its not dyno tuned, it ain't tuned, its just adjusted.

A butt dyno is when you are driving your car and you feel a difference in the power after you install x part. For example, someone puts a new header on their car and according to their "butt dyno" they feel a strong mid range increase in power over the stock header. That's really about it.

Well played, there is a company that makes gag items. Blinker fluid, elbow grease, round tuits, etc.

Those prices are high to me... My tuner charges $150/ hour for dyno time
So it only takes your tuner 1 hr to fully tune a car? If not then your paying as much if not more then the OP to have you car tuned. A great tuner can have a car done in about 2hrs, a good tuner will take about 3-4 to get it all finalized. Hell most shops charge a little more if you are doing a pump gas and race gas tune in the same day and then most re-tunes are $300 flat rate. Normal prices here in Ohio is $400 for dyno tune plus cost of fuel management.
