i had a dummy cat. It was a stock cat but was gutted for airflow.

A gutted cat will slow airflow through the exhaust down. You're putting a big, stagnate chamber for exhaust to collect and will bottle up trying to get out and force itself out the smaller diameter pipe that follows. It creates a bottleneck and reduces exhaust gas velocity
