DUDE THATS SICK!!!! I helped my dad build his 52 M28A1 from the ground up... It was where I learned everything to do for a rock crawler. When you start on it you should make a build thread, Id like to see it and the progress.

That's pretty cool. I agree you should make a build thread for it.

Updates:
I cut out the rust, and built a patch. I skipped quite a few steps with the picture taking though- just kind of powered through it. Left it with a light skin coat of body filler, I will sand it down and hopefully get the rest of the body prepped for more bed liner.

This is what I started with:

Started cutting:

Cutting some metal out to make the patch:

Light skin coat of body filler:

It's a lot smoother looking in person, I don't know why but the picture makes it look almost wavey..
I'll take pictures in the morning when I get it all sanded off.

More work tomorrow. :thumbs up

More updates!

Finished the patch.

Started tearing down the motor:

I need to pull the intake apart and clean it up so I can paint it. The heads are a little bad looking, i'll probably end up using the shop vac and wire brush on the area under the intake manifold.

Probably update more tonight. :thumbs up

Well I haven't touched the Jeep in awhile. Finally got a LITTLE bit done today.

Pulled the intake manifold apart and pressure washed it. Dried it off and began to clean up the rust/paint. Need to get some other bits to remove the ridiculous amount of rust on it. I sanded one of the valve covers and painted it. It didn't come out too great, the paint was a little.. liquidy..

Intake Off:

Stripped and pressure washed:

The bottom:

Cleaning it up:

Getting better:

Cleaned bottom:

New intake gasket:

Painted valve cover:

That's all for now. More later. :thumbs up

Rust bothers me so f***ing much. I went to change the water pump gasket and I broke off every little bolt on it. I think I can remove them with some heat and vice grips, but just the idea that I have to even bother bugs me.

It's probably a good thing that I decided to change the gasket, because when I got the pump off I realized it was in bad shape.

I forgot to snap a shot afterwards, but I cleaned all of that rust up. It's all nice shiny bare metal now. Not really sure if I should hit it with paint or not, it's going to have coolant constantly flowing through, and I feel that I couldn't get an effective paint job down. Might as well just leave it.

Full restoration buddy. ;)

Engine going back together tomorrow. New bolts. New gaskets. New fuel pump. New water pump. Painted the intake and valve covers. Bed lined the fire wall and part of the frame. The rear of the frame past the axle is tubed. (Replaced rusty frame.)

Still need to install the new fuel tank and sending unit and run all the new wiring. (I need to wire it as I go.)

It looks like a crate engine now lol. Buying new bolts and starting wiring tomorrow. >_<
I also need to polish up the carburetor. I put it on the intake and thought "Wow, that looks like crap." and took it back off lol.

Going to try to get the intake and water pump secured to the engine for the last time tonight. Then I will start cleaning the carbuator up and getting all the brackets ready for paint. :thumbs up

Might wire up and start it tomorrow?

Well the intake is on.. finally.. it took forever to get the stupid bolts in. All new I might add!

Tomorrow I have to pick up some new bolts for the valve covers, and remove the broken bolts from the water pump. I have all the new bolts for the pump I need. I painted all the brackets and the thermostat housing. I've got the hoses ready.

I also installed the fuel sending unit in the new fuel tank and have it ready to go on. I'm going to build some new suspension parts for the rear and weld them up before I put the fuel tank on.

The plan tomorrow is to get the MOTOR part of the Jeep done. All the new parts on and new fluid in it. I am going to try to wire everything up and get the Jeep started tomorrow. (For the first time in a very very long time.) If I get the Jeep wired and started tomorrow I will start on the new dash and start wiring up the lights and all of that.

I'm on the hunt for new front fenders. The ones that came off of it are rusted to hell, and I don't want to weld in new panels. If I can find new fenders I will get them instead.

Anyone want to help me wire this sucker up? I really hate wiring! :'(

Carb is cleaned up and on. Just need to go pick up some valve cover bolts and a new grommet that came off the intake. Bolted all the brackets on and installed the new spark plugs.

I need to go order four more spark plugs because when I ordered them I only ordered four. I was in the mindset I was still working on a four cylinder.

Today I will probably start wiring it up. Really am not looking forward to that though.

Everything is bolted down. Hoses on. I went to part stores and couldn't get the spark plugs. I'll get them ordered at the store in town tomorrow. I also couldn't find a grommet for the PCV.

All the engine bay wiring is out, I cut all the wire loom off and started laying out everything. I'll buy new loom tomorrow at the part store. Hopefully I will get the fuel line I need and get it all flared where needed. I'm also going to buy a new fuse box for all the wiring. It has the old school tube bulbs from '77. I figured it would just be easier to upgrade it while I rewire the whole thing.

Hmm, more updates tomorrow.. MAYBE even a start up!
