Premium or not?

YOU DONT HAVE TO USE PREMIUM. I also have a gsr, a 1994 for that matter, and it does say to use Premium whenever possible but you dont have to. The higher octane is only used about 5% of the time and thats when your jumping on the gas, have more than 1 passenger in the car, or you have lots of weight your towing or something like that. The knock sensor will pick up the slightest bit of detonation which should not result in any damage and backs off the timing a couple degrees. If you are just commuting, driving around town, stuff like that, not jumping on the gas, then any gas is fine. If you plan on driving up hills, carrying people around or whatever, then to be on the safe side, put in 91. Hope this helps! -Aaron
you sir, are wrong.

use premium. the car was designed to use it, not regular. Dont be dumb. if the extra couple cents is too much for you to afford, sell the car to someone who will actually take care of it please. lol

TheIVJackal, what you're saying is that if you go up hills, or have a passenger.. you should run premium, but if you drive on completely flat ground with no passengers and your not on the gas at all, run regular? Lol.

So basically if you drive your car run premium. You could have just said that dude. :)

LOL at me all you want, its clearly stated in the Owners manual by ENGINEERS in Japan. You could probably "Run" your car in 87 and not have any problems, I just try to avoid it when I have that gas in the tank. Manual says that performance may be lowered if 87 is in there but I personally haven't noticed a great difference. Premium where I live is at $3.40, Its $3.80 if I go to the really expensive stations, and only poised to go up as Crude just went up another $1.50 to $90+/barrel today. Not all cars respond well to a lower octane fuel, ours does and that should not be taken away as I am somehow not "taking care" of my car. Im simply stating a fact and a fact it will stay no matter what you say.

Yea, you also could "run" the car on a d15b single cam map, but I wouldn't to that either.

OP, as stated before, use premium fuel. Don't risk blowing up a B17 over $.12 per gallon.

its like running a turbo untuned (not as dramatic but the same Principal) if the motor was tuned for high octane.. .then put high octane in it... its simple. if you want to be cheap about it ill gladly trade you for a geo metro

You should run premium all of the time. The high compression of the GSR requires it to prevent detonation. Most of all, it would be a DAMN SHAME to ruin a B17 equipped DB2....they are getting harder and harder to come by these days.
gauge says premium unleaded

If the car says to run 93 i think you should run the correct fuel. Running a lower fuel grade will slowly kill your car.

I swear if you come back with a single engine related problem I'm going to immediately give you a link to this thread and cock slap you. Doesn't matter what the problem is, don't take a chance with the B17.

Hello I have 92 integra GsR and it says to only run premium but the guy I bought it from said he runs premium only sometimes so I'm at a stand still the gas light is on so I'm wondering if it's a good idea to start running premium or if I should just put regular in it will regular gas hurt it? Help please. Thanks
Looks like you are low on gas.

Just wanted to quote the Engineers. 1994 Integra Owners Manual
"(GS-R model)
Use a premium unleaded gasoline with a pump octane number of 91or higher. If you are unable to find premium unleaded, you may substitute an unleaded regular gasoline. The engine will compensate for the lower octane, but you may notice a slight decrease in power as a result."

vvv Im not sure if this one is correct, was the only manual I found online. vvv
1992 Integra Owners Manual
"Use gasoline from pumps labeled unleaded, with a pump octane number of 86 or higher. Use of a lower octane gasoline can cause persistent, heavy "spark knock" (a metallic rapping noise), which can lead to engine damage if severe."

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Just letting you know that no, its not neccesary to run PREMIUM everytime you fill up. Dont argure with me, argue with the engineers who created the engines. Happy New Years Day!
