Silly and a question I feel lame asking but it's something I feel the need to ask. I drive 80 miles roundtrip to work and 91 is $4.19 in Cali, I know the car says premium gas so thats what I have been using. since all 80 miles are hwy driving at like 75 mph and no speed change would it still be safe to use 87? Thanks guys

I'd use premium due to the higher compression. The gas detonates better. You don't ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO because your ECU will adjust but why treat your GsR like that?

I know it's not your Subie but give her some luv! lol

yes, we are actually currently talking about it in the gas thread. its for the higher compression that the GSR's run apparently.

You don't have to use 91+, but you won't get maximum performance from the engine if you don't. It won't hurt it, the ECU will adjust for the lower octane gas.

It depends on the engine.. Thats why with vtec engaged models, you use higher octane for better ignition of the fuel. I could be completely wrong about that, since I'm new to Integras, but its universal for all engines..

I came from an RX8, so theres only 2 rotors in there that spin around, with apex seals sealing off the 3 chambers that push in air and fuel, ignite it, and push it out the exhaust port. That is a great example of high compression, thats why you always, I repeat, ALWAYS use premium in a rotary engine.

When you get low compression in a rotary engine, its probably due to a weak, or somehow possibly damaged apex seal, which isnt quite getting all the juice to ignite the fuel and air mixture..

Anyways, when you look at it from my point of view, its pretty simple for all cars

with the quality gas were getting now, i run 93 in my beater, yeah its 4.10 a gallon but it gets me better gas mileage and doenst make my car idle crazy.
Remember back when gas was piss yellow and stunk? that was the good stuff, this shit we got now is clear, and yes i know its all the ethanol there putting in the fuel, but damn you get 87 and you the real octane level could be anywhere from 84-91. But how many times you think you get lucky and get 91 for the price of 87?

Spend approximately $3.00 extra per fill up or risk damaging the motor(notice I said risk)...is this really a hard decision?
