Low Boost Daily Driver Question

If i boost my gsr at 6psi this summer...i know i will have some nice power and everything but will my gsr still be reliable? This is considering i get hondata like i am going to do and get it tuned well. Will my car still be reliable as a daily driver and is there a way to reduce the boost for daily driving? I know you can increase boost beyond the wastegate but can you lower it at all? Like make it 3psi for daily driving and then turn it up to 6psi when i need it?

6psi should still be reliable, I have seen many tuned Hondas and Acuras alike with hondata and boost and they seem to do fine! :thumbs up

6 psi is perfectly safe, just make sure it doesn't spike.
and if you get a boost controler you could turn it down. but with 6 psi you won't need to

but will the engine stay reliable if i drive it alot? Like if i'm boosting at around 6psi w/ a quick spooling turbo lets say with a .42 A/R ratio....it will be up to full boost by like 2500 rpms...is it ok to be up to full boost while your driving? I know boost doesn't kill an engine detonation does but will it still be ok for the engine as long as the timing and fuel curves are tuned correctly?

i doubt u can go that low with a internal wastegate, the springs around 5-7 psi. lol i dunno why u would want to be on low boost...lol i'ma be on 12psi daily =) woot! :thumbs up

i should get an external wastegate anyways correct? With a 6psi spring? And your going 12psi because you have a kseries motor and according to the other thread yesterday they can handle more boost stock than b series motors. What i wanna know is if 6psi tuned will be ok for a daily driver on my gsr w/ hondata.

there shouldn't be anything to worry about at 6 psi with stock internals. did you have any kit in mind or you trying to put one together?

Reliablity as an issue.....

1.This kit will be more reliable than say no hondata or more boost. BUT it will not be as reliable as a stock engine. or a built head with a stock bottom.

2. Do a compression check to make sure your engine can handle the added cylinder pressure. NEXT a leak down test to see if anything in the coolant system is leaking.

3. Check and get rid of the muck in the bottom of the oil pan. and visually inspect the crank and girdle.

4. change all fluid (coolant & tranny) Change the fuel filter...This is a must.

5. Keep engine temps down. cooler spark plugs, 160 degree thermostat, and a new ignition (people say the stock honda ignition is fine...But why risk it?? what if its not. Every vehicle is different)

6. TUNE, TUNE, TUNE

You will be on your way to a more reliable set up than not doing these things.

8) 8) 8) 8)

6psi should be fine. but i wouldnt be turning up your boost like that unless you plan on retuning every time you do so. because if you just crank it up to 6psi... you still have it tuned for running at 3psi. but hopefully you knew that and meant turn it up to 6psi AND tune it when needed :thumbs up

i'm planning on piecing my own kit together i think it's a lot more practical as long as you buy good stuff. Slow thanks alot for all of the extra tips i'll be sure to do all of them before i go turbo. So 6psi of constant boost is fine to run as a daily driver as long as it's tuned?

Yes it should be fine as long as the engine can take it. You need to do some serious research. Educate yourself. Post as many questions as you need help with. I as well as many others will try and help you the best we can.
