I just bought my Integra literally a week ago. Saturday, (it was about 85 degrees here) I was driving to Tuscaloosa (about an hour and a half away) when I go about an hour into the trip I noticed the temp gauge slowly climbing. Well I got off at the next exit (less than 1/4mi) and as soon and I began to decelerate, the temp gauge was almost pegged. We parked it, and let it cool off for about 45 minutes, then checked the fluid. It was low, so we put about half a jug of radiator fluid in it and went on our way. The rest of the way there it didn't get over normal temp. On our way home that evening nothing happened, but by then the temp outside had cooled down by almost 20 degrees.
Yesterday, I had to drive to Athens, AL, about another hour and a half away from where I stay. Again, about an hour into the trip it overheated. So we parked it at a cracker barrell until about 9:30pm. Drove it the final 30 miles and again, she did fine. We thought it was the thermostat, so we went the the local Advanced and bought one there, but we couldn't get the back bolt off and didn't have the tools we needed to do it there. I went home, and SSDD. Had to stop an hour into the trip and finish my final 30 after it began raining so it was cooled down outside.
It doesn't show the temp has risen any until I slow way down or if I stop, then it just slowly goes up and down. I stopped at my local shop where a few buddies work so I could trouble shoot the problem. Come to find out the fluids aren't circulating through the system properly. So the water pump seems to be the problem. I still plan on replacing the thermostat as well though, seeing as how I already bought one. I am trying not to dump any money into the car just yet seeing as how I am trying to save up so I can move to TN by October, but looks like I may have too. So here in thought, what's the best water pump to get/which parts store? I've looked online but I don't want to get just any pump, I've had too many in my recent cars go out from all different stores. So any advice yall? It's much appreciated.
