A lot of this information is false. Gearing is only part of the story. The B16 has the same gearing as the Type R, but there are differences besides the addition of LSD. The Type R LSD is different than the optional JDM B16 and Sir-G (=GSR) LSDs, and in fact the Type R LSD is the only OEM LSD worth having.
This information is readily available. Posting topics and searching for old topics on forums IS NOT RESEARCH. If it is, then try writing an article citing forums and getting it published. Search for a file called "type_r_technical_guide.pdf". Also try the articles at

There is no reason to ever say that the GSR or LS trans is better for turbo. This is a misinterpretation. Longer gears allow for a higher top speed, but at the expense of acceleration. So someone once said that the more power you have, the less you need a short geared tranny. That information got twisted and repeated with no comprehension and now it is taken as fact. It's completely false. Unless you're bouncing off the rev limiter if 5th gear setting a land speed record, the shorter trans is quicker.
The JDM 98+ had a shorter final gear.
I have a Type R trans in a stock GSR coupe. I'm just waiting a few more weeks until I pop the trans back out and ship it to MFactory to have it rebuilt with their synchros and sleeves, and have them fit their 3rd gear and an LS 5th gear.
