BMW are know for Automatic Transmission issues. There pricey to keep them running your mom is better off getting a C300 Benz

At the shop we have replace so many automatic trans in the BMW. The manual is the way to go on the BMW.

Wow we never had to replace a bmw transmission at the shop I worked at, and they were our main business outside of Porsches.

They use a GM 5L40-E and 6L45-E transmission from General Motor.

They're still on the IS350. But in the price and mileage range he is talking about, you'd have to step into a bit older car. Low mileage 2011 IS350 is going to be $10k more than what he is looking at.

I have one and it has been a great car. It also has a lot more power than a 328i.

Don't know what those codes are, I remember them using gm transmissions back in late 90s early 00s, they had the same problems occur that every other automatic could have.

He said his mom wants something with good passing speed, the auto ILXs are pretty slow. A decent looking car, but its pretty much a luxury civic. She's better off with an Accord V6, it's round the same price and has alot of the same features not to mention better preformance.

Cx5 is the smaller SUV, I like that a lot. If I was gonna go with a new European car I'd switch to Mercedes, their quality has far exceeded BMWs in recent years. If I didn't mind looking like a cock in something hideous I'd consider an Audi.

She loves Mercedes and if she doesn't get anything for a few years then I'd probably help get her in to one. But yeah, the cx5 is what she likes
