Installing Stereo Head Unit

I bought my Integra a few months ago, but it did not come with a head-unit. Just went to look at some cheap ones and the guy told me I'd need to spend an extra $20 on a wiring harness. I can see where the old one was in, there is a big white connector in there. Is that all I need, or do I need the wiring harness? I'd take a pic, but I'm in PA right now (visiting fiancée's parents) and the car is in WA.

And if all I want in a head unit is the ability to plug in my iPhone, is there any sense in getting a $100 model over a $60.00 one?

I had a Pioneer in my Saturn. However, whenever I pressed on a button, it would push in the face-plate and the screen would reset itself. Any problem with this unit? That was so annoying.

Also, as far as installation goes... I am not an idiot, but I am by no means an electrician either. Will this be difficult?

might of been just your deck, the piece that holds it on might of just gotten loose from taking the face plate off on and on

nah pretty easy, specially in the teg

The harness you're referring to allows you to be able to plug your new aftermarket radio in without cutting up the wiring in the car. Looks like this - http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Harness-Integra-wiring-installation/dp/B000KL6NAA

Get the right one for your model year, wire it up to the harness that comes with the factory radio and it's plug and play. Order the radio from somewhere like Crutchfield and they'll throw in the harness and install kit with the radio.

I have that radio, except mine has Bluetooth in it. I must say, I love it. I'd definately recommend it.
What's the model number on yours? I have a separate BT kit in my car I use to stream music from my phone, would rather it just be in the radio.

the harness can be purchased at a local walmart. that's where i bought mine, you just simply connect that to the "big, white connector" in your car and take the other end of wires and connect them to the matching colors of the new unit. if you get a single DIN headunit, you may also need the dash install kit.
you could buy a head unit with out the USB plug and buy an RCA cable, connect the red and white pieces to the corresponding holes in the back of the unit, then connect the other end to your ipod. the RCA cable can be hidden if you run it into your glove box. that's how mine is set up and i have an ipod dock to hold my ipod and charge it. except mine doesn't have the radio thing because you don't need it if you have the RCA cable

the links showd show you what i'm talking about

stay with crutchfeild i promise you it helps so much. they give you installation instructions and the dash install kit free. thats where i got mine there is soldering involved but it easy just matching wires. i have a jvc kd-r720 and i love it no issues with the face plate you just have to install it right.

I don't think you can stream music via Bluetooth with this headunit. It has an external mic that you mount anywhere. I put mine on the steering column. Works great.

ohhh!!!!

Just thought of something...

I like to keep my interior lights way dimmed down at night. Will some of these adjust the display to match my dimming of the interior lights? Or at least dim it to a preset amount when I turn my headlights on? That'd be amazing!
