jdm?

Naw there are ways to get them imported and have a US vin, you just need to know someone in the dmv and have alot of $$$$$

But they are illegal because

DOT says so
emissions say so (depending on what state)
etc etc.

The only "legal" car to import from japan (from recent history) is any motorex skyline
Last I read the DOT was rounding them all back up because of some issues with how MotoRex did things. And didn't a few of the MotoRex guys go to prison?

I'm pretty sure you right. The government are seizing them left and right.

Yes and no. I think MotorRex was connected to a Yakuza syndicate in LA, hence the weird stories you hear in the case reports (mainly the owner). DOT can not prove which ones have the stuff done to it legally (early MotoRex cars) I herd KAIZO importing was under the gun even though they brought cars over here as a kit car without a motor, they sold motors on the side for the car or you could source one else where.

Either way, if you don't have the proper paper work for an imported car, the government will not hesitate to plug you in the ass.

Don't Japanese laws have higher restrictions on carbon emissions? I don't really understand the snags in actual imports.
