Should i trade my motor.

Allright so when i bought my tegg, it had a type r motor in it b18c5 but the previous owner drove the car and messed upp the crank. The whole motor had to be taken apart to fix it, i didnt have time to wait for it to get fixed bc it was my only ride. Anyways, my mechanic wanted the type r motor bc he had the type r trans, so we swaped motors. His b16a2 for my b18c5. I know i got ripped off but thats all i could do at the moment. Now i want to swap back into a b18 bc im getting 15mpg and i want my teg to have a the same motor it came with, b18c1. (98 gsr) on my local forum, i posted if someone wanted to trade. So far if gotten a running ls motor with vtec head(not installed)(just motor for motor, no trany involved)and a b18c with a blown gasket (he wants my b16 motor and trans for his b18 and ls tranny) Should itrade for ether of them? I was told to buy and od1 to obd2 conversion and a p28 ecu to fix my gas problems and make it more responsive.

What transmission do you currently have? 15mpg is horrible for any b series motor, it sounds like that one is having issues. I would suggest staying with obd1 though, changing to obd2 really wont help your economy, plus I dont think its your ecu causing those issues, It sounds like there is definitely something screwed up in the b16.

My tagg is obd2, im going to obd1 for the p28 ecu. Ive changed dverything to get better mpg, oil, fuel filter, spark plugs. Im out of ideas.

Do you have money to get a swap? Keep an eye on craigslist or hmotors for a cheaper swap, then use that. I would stop going to that mechanic. Find another shop and you'll be better off. You trade a 2000 dollar motor for a 400 dollar swap. You were ripped off, shops around here do swaps for maybe 1000 in labor etc. You were ripped off, don't get a c5, just get the c1 from a GSR.

I have money but im planning on using it for an alarm. So thats why i wanna do a str8 upp trade.

First off, your b16 is getting that MPG because there's comething wrong with it. Are you throwing codes at all? You have to be running rich or have something to cause that MPG. Also, no one's going to want to trade for a lesser pwer motor given how interchangeable the B series is. If this was MY car (yours so do what you want) I'd A get a trusted mechanic, then spend the 500 on alarm if you want it installed. They dont cost much more than that, use a killswitch to. THen buy a motor online from one of the companies mentioned, or hit craigslist and have it compression checked too. This mechanic is doing nothing but ripping you off. Let me know if you need more links to the larger engine importers.

You said you were going obd2? :???: It really just sounds like you are having internal issues. That, or you just beat the hell out of that thing every time you drive.
How is that rice?! Im not better of with the b16 if i get 15mpg... Its killing me with the gas :(

I'd suggest finding a clean, well running b18, and swapping to that.

I have the throttle body codes on, im getting that replaced this week/weekend.
Fix the issues throwing the codes first and then see what kind of mileage you are getting.

Gotcha. I would take the b18c1, but I wouldn't swap transmissions (assuming you have a gsr transmission) It requires less work it sounds and ud be getting bent over again if you have up the tranny IMO.
But I personally would ifx the b16 first, see the milage ur getting after, and base my decision off that instead of saying "well, I'm currently getting 15 mpg, but it's throwing codes so I know somethings wrong but dont wanna fix it." I say try and fix it, and if it doesnt improve, then go with the one I said above

B181 will be easier to find, cheaper and when yourcar is stolen you won't be AS upset. You as stated, need to fix codes before assuming your mileage. Codes like running rich etc can cause a 10MPG drop, easy. Also, have your timing checked, that can usually impact mileage as well. If you wanna swap, look at my post above. the C5 is more expensive for minimal more power, take that money and buy some parts from me, and with an intake and a few things youll have more power than your c5 wuld make.
