ATTENTION 90-93 INTEGRA OWNERS: Loss Of Acceleration Power Question

Hey all,
Just wondering if any of you have had any problems with your 90-93 integra when your just cruising or driving anywhere and all the sudden loser power while pressing on the accelerator, and you have to push in the clutch to regear the gear your in and grab the gear again to get going again?. This is what happens to me, i brought my integra into the shop recently and the mechanic did not find anything wrong with the car, but it happens alot when i just lose power all of the sudden and more frequently when i try to accelerate when im merging into the highway or something like that. Also when driving either 30 minutes out of town or an hour out of town the car shows the check engine light which is yellow. But it keeps going, as long as i regrab that gear every time! good old hondas. I just want to know if this is a specific problem that anyone else has gone through and found out what the problem is so i can maybe just fix it and keep the car, i hope to keep it for a long time, im still at 260,000 km's!. God bless and thanks in advance all!!.

I'd go to a real mechanic that can figure out the issue.

like Hiden said, pull the code to see what it's throwing. It kind of sounds like a cat issue to me. does it happen every time you try to accelerate or only sometimes?

Need you some NOS Yo' that will help you merge into traffic.... But for real you might need a tune up and to pull the codes
Okay, i'll just say it..
Shut the fuck up, stop posting dumb ass things.

To the OP- Your engine could be getting tired as well. You should preform a compression test to see how things are.

Sorry to ask dumb questions but what do you mean by "pull the code"?. And what's a cat issue?. Only sometimes when i try to accelerate, it just starts losing power and i can try to give it more gas and in a few seconds it just thumps back up again in whatever gear your in but i dont let it do that, i push the clutch in and regrab the gear. Like i said i brought it to the mechanic and she said she could not find anything wrong, it could be something small, so until this honda stops running i will just be driving it i guess. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem. I only payed 1200 for this thing so im not sure about bringing it into the shop again and getting all this work done to find nothing, for a beater like this one but if i knew exactly what it was then i wouldnt mind bringing it in right away to get that specific problem fixed. Let me know if you guys have any more ideas and thanks for all the tips so far.

check engine light code(pull the code),sometimes when you're catalytic converter gets old it starts to clog and not letting pressure out made cause loss of acceleration also have you done a tune up on it.Always a good idea to do that first even if the guy say i just did one

Yeah the code or light that comes on after driving for about 10-25 minutes is this one:
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRZajjnDaFVE00mkfdtI8UAivrwubiy_H_uTM0Yc6me8HHRy0ga8w

And it was doing it today while driving on the highway, i would try to accelerate and it would just lose power and then i regear and try to speed up, and it still didnt pick up as much. Also there is a buzzing noise that i can hear coming out of the muffler, this can be heard while driving, its not really loud but it was doing it when i was trying to accelerate. I just had a checkup done, oil changed so that's a check. What your saying sounds like it makes sense, and i hope what i just explained will help describe the problem more. Thanks again.

P.S. there is two more threads about the same problem here:

So a new Catalyic Converter is around 100 bucks right? and labour would be around that much if it took an hour, i guess right?. Would it be worth a shot to just get this one part replaced and see what happens? it sounds like to me that it is clogged and it just needs replacing.

You might have an exhaust leak. You need to figure out which code the light is signifying. There are multiple write ups on how to do it.

I havent noticed much leaks around where i park, and the muffler sounds seriously ronchy when i rev the engine when accelerating, Sounds like something is wrong in that area of the muffler which is where the cat is but, can the symptoms i explained still be because of an exhaust leak? what does anyone else think?.

If you have money go out and buy new cat, piping and muffler.I don't know if it would fix you're problem but at least you don't have to worry about it no more

Does the engine continue to rev, but you slow down? Or, does the engine start to die? If the engine keeps revving, and pushing the clutch in seems to reengage it, you might have a bad clutch.

Added note, anyone who refers to nitrous at "NOS" automatically loses credibility. Thanks a lot, Fast and the Furious. Ever since that stupid movie, everyone throws the word "NOS" around in hopes of sounding like they know what they are talking about. "NOS" is a brand of Nitrous. It's like calling all soda "Coke" and trying to not sound like a stupid redneck.

Well i guess ill start off with the cat, and if that doesnt fix it ill try the piping and muffler, or should i just do it all at once? i dont know if it would be more in labour to replace one part at a time... let me know what you guys think.

The engine doesnt continue to rev after i take my foot off the gas, when it loses power it just loses power, i have not stalled the car one since i started driving it a month ago despite it's problems losing power.

you would have to talk to a muffler shop for since prices vary on where you go and who you know
