Look at you OGs spamming up my thread...
I have an update. Well sort of two small ones.
I took off the twin loop because it was getting quite loud. I believe that my burning of oil plus the 180* turns the piping makes throughout the muffler allows the burn oil to build up and lessen the dampening ability of the muffler. It sure is heavier than it was when I got it, so its definitely a sign. I tried to burn some out with some fire in it (compressed air, brake cleaner, and some cardboard/paper towels makes a nice fire in the muffler). It helped a little, but it really needs to get cleaned out (repacked...)
When I get around to it, I will put it back on after my exhaust changes to see if its still loud. If it is, then its pretty much worthless to me in its current state, and I will cut it open to try to replace the packing inside. Motorcycle mufflers are sometimes able to be disassembled to be repacked with new filler material. Im hoping to be able to use that if necessary. Definitely going to be a big project haha.
So the real updated. I put my Tanabe SMH back on, I used some touch up paint and sanded+buffed the spots out (will need more attention) but no pictures of that, and I got some new parts in.
I havent gotten my tax return back, but with it I will get a welder (hobart handler 140, most likely) and start practicing on scrap I hope to pick up from a local shop. I will do the resonator first, and then do the cat+flex pipe but not install that. I will need to rebuild my block before a new cat goes in as I dont want to clog it all up with the oil I am burning.
The items in the picture above are a 4" flex pipe, a 12" Vibrant Resonator, and a Carsound Cat (magnaflow, 54306). All of these pieces have a 2.5" diameter.
