Wiring power to a subwoofer 1990 Integra

Can anybody give me some suggestions for routing the power wire for a powered subwoofer from the battery through the firewall on a 1990 Integra LS Sedan?

This is my son's 1990 Integra LS sedan..manual transmission.. Almost completely stock. Sub came with a nice wiring harness....just not sure where to route the 10g power wire through the firewall.

Thanks!

Jim

theres a couple spots on the passenger side firewall if not u can drill a small whole. i usualy pass it thru near the harnes whole and run it along the pass side to the trunk and run the rca and remote wires down the middle of the car easier if you remove the carpet

I guess I am not seeing where you are referring to on the passenger side firewall. A picture, if you have one, would be ultimately helpful :)

What size sub and amp? Is it just the sub you are hooking up? I ran my power from the battery to the firewall on the drivers side firewall and through there, just find a place that is open on both sides and drill a hole.. My primary amp is under the passenger seat and the rest of the wires are run under the carpet and runners to the trunk. Run the rca and remote wires with the power wire at the same time, way easier to do in my opinion. I have a few pics for reference on my photobucket if you're interested... I would also suggest something a bit bigger than 10 gauge if you're going to be putting a large amount of power to the sub

It's not huge....it's a powered sub he got for Christmas. From Crutchfield...this one.

It came with a wiring harness kit from Crutchfield. This is not a high end stereo...just a small upgrade. He has a Sony head unit with a USB input for his iPod.....just wants a little more bass. We're going to have $181 into the head unit and sub.....this really is just a starter stereo for my high school senior.

there should be a rubber grommet close to the battery, there is on 94+ at least...thats what i ran mine through, if you can find a grommet in the firewall, cut a hole in it and feed it through so he doesnt cut the wire on the metal edges of the hole over time.

you can also just run it under the car and cut a hole in the trunk if you cant find another route.

Run the rca's down the middle and the power down the passanger side dont run all of the wires together due to interferance. Also running power under the car is never a good idea. If the car hitts something and breaks or splits the cable could tuch the body or frame (ground) and that is never good. Find a whole or drill a new one carefully on passanger side and run everything under carpet.:)

I havent had any problems with interference and I ran all my wires together.. And x2, never run wires under the car. And do make sure you have groments if you make new holes

Thank you for all your responses. I am not going to run it under the car. I am not sure where the battery is on the 94+ Integras, but in the 1990 it's front-passenger corner of the engine compartment...with the air cleaner housing in between the battery and fender. Like I said before...a picture would be worth a thousand words. :)

I can't post any pictures but if you look on the driver side, roughly where the steering wheel is, there should be a half dollar size rubber gromit, drill a hole in it, and run your wire through there, this is on the firewall side of course, just line up where your steering wheel is and travel down the firewall, and a little to the left, you cannot miss it, if you can't find that, have a professional do it, that's what I did on my 1990 that I have, it is impossible to miss

thats what i said just find a blank spot on the wall drill a hole. tape the edges and run the power thru it. i usualy ground it on the rear seatbet

Hgocasca, I am not familiar with the "half dollar sized rubber grommet" you referred to. I looked on both the outside firewall and the inside. I found one hole on the outside, but it was not clear through. I am not sure what was in the way.

However Jim, I put my cable through the same hole that the speedometer cable is. I poked a hole in the grommet and ran the cable through. It comes up somewhere near the middle of the firewall up above, if you shove a cable through you should see it fairly easily. Just make sure you zip tie the cable out of the way when you route it inside the car and through the engine bay, and make sure it is not in the way of any pedals/cables/ect.

The RCA and the power cable "should" be routed up separate sides of the vehicle for best performance, but most people can't notice any interference running them up the same side. (Or the middle.) Just make sure you tuck it all nicely away so it doesn't look like garbage. :)

(I took pictures, but I have super bad internet and I can't find my camera cable lol.)

Edit:
Easier then drilling holes in the firewall and risking hitting something important.
And make sure you put a fuse somewhere close to the battery so that if it does ground out, you don't burn your car to the ground.

I saw the half-dollar size rubber plug. I was hoping there is one on the passenger side to make routing down the passenger side a little easier. I plan to route the audio and power separately.

Thanks for all the input. This was a lot easier on my Ford pickup with so much more room in the engine compartment :)

I have no idea what plug you guys are referring to! (And I have no engine in the car right now!)

Gymbo, I agree completely. I can sit comfortably in my F350's engine bay lol.
