Low PSI Turbo on Stock Internals Reliable?

My 90 intega just isn't fast enough. I have a b18a and i have heard that if you run low boost at 5 psi or lower that it won't hurt your internals. So i was wondering if this true and how reliable this will be for me?

You won't see much of a gain running a turbo that low... I think when I had a rabbit, I was looking at upgrading to the diesel turbo, just the turbo portion, and it would have gave me like 10 hp off the 5lbs of boost. Definitely not worth the effort put into it... Not for a whole 108hp... I instead went for a larger motor, then a turbo for that motor... I went from 98hp, to around 225hp with the motor swap to a 16v motor/turbo system, boosting about 10-15lbs of boost. It's been so long, though!

Reliability depends upon the condition of your engine, the supporting mods and the quality of the tune. Even at 5 psi, a crappy tune can kill an engine. But that is well within the capabilities of a healthy engine when done properly.

We dont drive rabbits.

We drive Integras.

Looks like this guy made 239 WHP on a stock LS, bigger injectors, and bigger fuel pump.

And here is a thread of people's setups with turbo's.

I've heard low pressure turbos with conservative tunes can mildly improve gas milage. I've got nothing to back this up other than a vague memory of seeing it on some car show.

You have to remember, 5psi on a t28 is a lot different than 5psi on a GT35R...A lot will depend on what turbo you go with.
Still, your tune will make or break your motor.

Here's this. 5 psi will give you boost. Not insane, but it will be considerably quicker than stock.

Just go with a JRSC (Supercharger)
8psi and your DA will have more torque at low end, and on top the LS motors have torque.
You'll get a nice pull w/o turbo lag.

aren't those superchargers expensive as hell? more expensive than an ebay turbo kit?
i jus want to know if it is worth it to do, and if i'm safe if i run low boost and a good tune... i'm new to this is anyway they make a step by step instruction manual to put on a turbo kit?? lol

If your engine is in good shape you can run high boost. Your ratio is low enough.9.2:1

Here is a guide I been reading.

Not at all. You can usually find used ones

ebay turbo? and you want reliability? those 2 dont really mix.
then again ive heard both.

I know we don't drive rabbits... It was a comparison. Really, though, you can't expect a t bone steak, when you buy pork chops... The ebay kit will probably not work great, spend the time, find a nice turbo, and all the components. If you skimp on parts, you will lack in reliability. By this, I mean find a t3 turbo, and a westgate worthy of a serious build. Buy yourself a good controller to allow you to choose boost, and so forth... If you spend nickles and dimes, over time, you will be driving a horrible machine... Save up the cash, and get what you want the first time, so you do it right!
