you do it after every coat. you dont have to bake it at 700 degrees where it will melt the vinyl...just hot enough for the paint cure quickly.


i mean...its not like ive never painted a valve cover before.:roll:

thats why my shit looks so fresh and last so long.

If you baked it with the vinyl on it would melt into the base coat. You need to remove the vinyl before the top layer of paint dries or it will cause it to peel. I used a heat lamp to help the paint cure but I don't think this step is completely necessary. If anyone doing this at home doesn't have a heat lamp or want the place they cook food to smell like paint, your valve cover should still hold up just fine.

I just asked that if you were going to be a blatant dick to another member that you take it elsewhere. I don't disrespect your threads and ask you to extend the same courtesy.

As long as we're making suggestions, I would suggest you take the time to tape off the oil cap hole so that the paint you get in the threads does not make its way into your customer's engines when they screw on their oil caps. Sorry if you felt I was questioning your abilities, thats not what I intended. We're all here to learn and I think there is better ways to help other members rather than just jumping on.

if you knew anything at all about building engines...you would know that 99% of engines require this thing called an oil filter....so if the paint does ever flake off of the inside of the threads.. the filter would catch it. what little bit of paint wouldnt ever hurt the internals or even clog up an oil passage way.
