I have a 92 gsr b17a1 with b16 trans w/lsd. All I have done to it is lowered, I.H.E with hondata ecu s100 chip on the way with a p28 ecu to get tuned. I dont know where to start as in building internals like cams, springs, retainers, and pistons-rods, etc.. I dont know where to began and what type of brand to buy for my b17a1. I dont have a ton of money so I will have to buy parts as I go, so any options of parts I should buy that I can patiently wait to eventually put everything together. I really want to boost but honestly dont have enough money to do it the correct way. So guy's please give me some of your thoughts on where I should began to make my car more power gains. Thanks.

Just a few sites to browse and look/read all the info on the parts and what there made for. Also browse forums and read peoples "Motor Builds" to learn what's needed.

Well if I were you I'd start out with a set of cams. Maybe Skunk2 stage 1 or 2 TUNER edition. After that, maybe an intake manifold and higher-compression pistons. Obviously if you add the second 2 items you will DEFINITELY need a tune. You can also look into porting the head, running a slimmer head gasket for more comp., stroker kit, etc. (I'm not positive that there is a stroker kit for the b17 though).

nope. b17 is already stroked from a b16. Block size is exactly the same i believe.

Definitely remove OBX from that list, and replace Blox with Skunk2

Thanks for all the information and defenitly going to look into it more seriously. My friend said a b16/b17 are better for a high compression builds, does this seem right? Also what about itr/ctr cams+gears in the b17 as an upgrade? Is it better if I get titainium valve springs and retainers? Thanks.

Itr/ctr cams and cam gears will be decent but they are not that aggressive compared to some of the skunk2 options. Also, you should always upgrade valvetrain when you do cams.

Well yes it is, but I was wondering if anyone made a better stroker kit  prolly not

But hey 92integragsr you can look at my build thread after im done, that if you don't beat me to finishing it. My block and head is all off now, just that im having a bit of a time with my damn crank pulley! it being a bitch right now. Mostly for a 200k+ motor.

Haha, yeah I know about the crank giving some problems. My gsr has about 212k right now after I did a stock head rebuild, water pump, timing, head gasket, etc. it was a pain at first working with a higher mileage car(pb-blaster works great!!!). This is my second 92 gs-r and I kicked myself in the ass for getting rid of the first one because of bills and kids but I'm not going to let that happen again. You will be done before me because of time and money constraints, but I will be glad to see what you are going to do with your car. I was looking at brian crower cams and titainuim dual valve springs and valves for my set-up as a street/race application for the head. Bottom end like pistons-rod etc I'm not to sure of anything like that at the moment.

I ate the bones
With more aggressive cams, a completely new valve train is recomended or required. Dual valve springs titanium retainers and stainless steel valves by Skunk2 are a prime choice. Are you looking into a complete rebuild or strictly bolt ons? If a rebuild, then the best thing you can do is throw in a set of Honda OEM Type-R high compression pistons. Thats the route I'm taking with my B18a1 rebuild. Also a lighter flywheel can help. Take a run to Barns and Noble and pick up this book called "How to Rebuild Honda B Series Engines" it can point you in the right direction. It did for me with my rebuild. I highly recommend it.

Wow I'm see alot of B17a1 coming around here. But start by taking your motor apart and get yourself a rebuild kit, also while your at it hot tank that block of yours. That should be a clean start up.
