noob to boost...

So after a conversation with a friend a starbucks last night, i have come to a cross road boost or not to boost. I have always been for more of a NA set up because i have felt that FI was sort of cheating to gain hp. My plans for doing a NA set up was to abandon or set aside my current b18b and maybe do a ls vtec or keep the motor as a reliable backup. I planned on getting a GSR motor, with Type R oversized pistons, bore it out, skunk2 phase 2 cams, skunk 2 valve springs and retainers (or go with type R cams), port and polish the head, blue print and balance the block, and do intake manifold and throttle body (idk what kind yet...still need to do research on them). Also i would have a chipped p72 with a hondata s300 or s200. Since im a noob to boost i did some research on CI and found a therad by Slow_99teg and found the following requirements:

Most important: CLUTCH, this will fry very very fast. this should be the very first thing done
1. turbo (the size you need depends on power goals)
2. Manifold (tubular or cast iron)
3. Oil feed and return lines (found on ebay)
4. down pipe (2.5"-3" depending on wanted power. The exhaust MUST be bigger or equal to the downpipe size)
5. Intercooler (front mount is optional. this helps to keep charge temps down and engine temps as well)
6. BOV (Blow off valve. this eliminates charge pressure from returning into the turbo, and back to the engine)
7.FMU (engine management is best Hondata, neptune etc. But a vortec is good 12:1 or the jackson 5:1 but even better than both of those is the cartech adjustable FMU 1:1 all the way to 12:1 i believe) a wide band o2 is excellent in this case.
8. exhaust 2.5" or bigger with a high flow cat. (the quicker the exhaust leaves the quicker the turbo will spool)
9. Correct intercooler pipes for your car. along with couplers
10. one heat range colder spark plugs
11. knowledge, time, and patience
12. Bigger fuel pump (Walboro makes excellent pumps)

Not needed, but also important
1. ignition (msd, crane, etc)
2. boost gauge
3. a/f gauge
4. test pipe
5.axles
6. bigger fuel injectors (depending on power needs and boost level)
7. itr oil pump and water pump

all these items will vary on power wants and needs.

The goal of my car has always been "OEM with a purpose" and to be 100% carb legal with a shit load of power. So i woud probably go with a Greddy Trust Turbo kit. But, another question has arisen, would turbo be too aggressive for a daily driver? having 200whp in a NA is one thing but turbo is a completly different story to me. what are your guy's imput on this. Should i go with a GSR swap or build the LS motor, or do both? (all would be long term projects)

Clif Notes

Cant decide wheather or not to go turbo or stay NA

yeah i feel ya on that one but its just such a cross road for me i want to see what other people have to imput. Cause honestly right now im for what ever

well i like turbos, so i would do the greddy kit, and you can just bolt that up and make go numbers or if you want to go n/a your gonna have to rip the motor apart if you want to make any good numbers

even if its bolt on dont you still have to tap into an oil line? sorry im a total boost noob =/...anyways you think its too agressive to do boost for a dd?

Yes, you still need an oil line.

Personally, I'd go N/A. But that may have something to do with the fact that I already have 2 turbo cars. I suppose if I didn't, I would sure as hell want one though. LOL

I wouldn't go N/A without an engine swap though. I'm not really a fan of LS/VTEC and I would want more than what a B18B has to offer without going all out

you can tape it or you can get an oil filter sandwich plate and run a line off that, and if your gonna dd it i would get two maps, one with a lower boost and no messing with the timing, and one thats a little more crazy

thats what im thinking, ive noticed how much the b1 is limited in terms of power =/ damn

well here is the big question, how much money do you have? if you dont have 3500ish then dont do it. you will need 2000-2500 for a good turbo kit plus you'll need an ecu and to get tuned. then set some money aside for if anything goes wrong.

i was figuring i would spend that much for swap anyways. I would have to run 8psi if i have stock internals correct?
