What's the real chances of hydrolocking

Hey guys i was considerering switching from my short raim to a CAI...I live in oregon where it rains pretty good some of the time and somewhat frequently Plus my car is going to be lowered soon.... And i want to know what are my REAL chances of hydrolocking? and have u ever known anyone that has hydrolocked?

The real chances of it happening are fairly slim as long as you have a bypass valve and don't go rallying through deep puddles at WOT lol

Just get a bypass valve (if you have a CAI) and don't drive like a dumb ass in the rain :thumbs up

I ruined my b17 by sucking water. I didn't have a bypass valve but I don't think it would have mattered.

I live in SoCal, so hydrolocking isn't much of a threat.

to hydolock, your filter must be fully submerged in water...not just wet. a few splashes won't hurt it. however, if you drive into a puddle that is 2 feet high, then you'll suck up water.

So you're saying that even driving on a regular rainy day will be fine for a CAI? I live in MN so it rains frequently here.

I haven't seen it with just normal rain, but I watched 3 people hydro lock their motors in completely stock cars when there was a boat load of water. When you put the sucker-tube (yeah, that's a technical term. lol) right next to the water, what's it going to suck up?

when i had my last integra it had a cai on it and my fender liners were torn apart from the 17s i had on it. all the water from just regular driving being thrown on the filter bogged it out a little where my car studdered for a second then drove fine. i drove threw a puddle once and got lucky. my car died then eventually turned over after a min and idled really bad throwing a lot of white smoke outta my exhaust while idling very funny.

Rain and splashing isn't gong to hurt anything but If you drive through a deep puddle, watch out. I drove into a very big puddle in the road and sucked it up. The pressure broke two of my oil squirters and the rings and clyinders were toast.

yeah. you need to completely submerge it for it to suck up water. a damp filter isn't going to ruin your engine. by the time the water vapors travel through the tube, it would've evaporated.

i heard bypass valves reduce performance just like adding a silencer so an exhuast almost...so i dont really wanna do that though

i used to run a CAI in oregon
never had a problem but i do know there were a couple close calls
if you really wanna risk it than go ahead you SHOULD be ok as long as u drive aware lol
