HID Retrofit Question

the only thing that is legal is OEM.... any modification of any sort is considered illegal. even if you retrofit with OEM components.

yo....that is some messed up stuff...you basically have to drive your car stock for the most part....

It'll be legal as long as your headlight beams aren't blue or yellow. Has to be pure white or close to it.

for low beams only though, highs and fogs can be any color

All retrofit is illegal regardless of what anyone tells you. Those lens were never approved in those housing therefore it is illegal. Chance of you getting pulled over are a lot less since you won't be blinding in comming traffic.

I recommend have a spare set of headlight just in case one of those days happen. You can go through the process of getting them approved but that will take a lot of time and money.

yup did you ever see me get pulled over for HID? no! in fact, i was playin stupid one night driving around w/o headlights (dont ask). got pulled over (obviously) and cop told me turn on my headlight. HIDs come on, he says "see your headlights work,", yada yada and off i went. no mention of "illegal headlights" (good thing he didn't ask to pop my hood) .

also, had a friend in a 240 go through a drunk driving checkpoint with HID in non retro housing. cop asked him why he had his highbeams on (lol), he said naw these are just HIDs. no problemo, off he went. (wally btw)

also both these instances were using the HID from the group buy thanks maurkeers (sp?)

^Guess you've just had good luck.

Anyways I'm pretty sure ANY modification to the lights, other than changing bulbs(even then they must be the OEM type and DOT approved) is illegal.

probably right, but seriously cops have better things to worry about. retrofitted HIDs should not be a problem at all. a PnP HID kit might give you problems, esp if its pink or purple, or even green as i have seen in a few trucks, but like i said, i doubt anybody has ever been pulled over strictly based on a headlights modification with a retrofitted HID kit.

So is the consensus that it isnt recommended to add in a plug-n-play HID kit to the stock projectors because of the light pattern and that you should retrofit projectors from another car that uses HIDs?

Just got pulled over cause I was out of inspection today. The cop didn't say anything about the HIDs and he went over my car with a fine tooth comb and I even have 8000ks in my low beams which is blue enough to know they are not supposed to be there.

Also with the kit I have the cutoff line is great if your headlights are adjusted to factory spec. No problems here yet.
