anything pre 96 doesnt require a cat I think. They dont have secondary o2 hence the reason why people use the obd1 ecus for tuning. There are less restrictions.You can drive without one, but you'd need a test pipe (think of it as a giant spacer) to go in the cat's place. The legality depends on where you live.
I was throwing that out there as a caution, didn't know the specifics since there's no regulations here in FL.
