Dylan, they didn't do it because people wouldn't pay that much for a car badged Honda.
They created Acura, as did Nissan with Infinity and Toyota with Lexus due to American anti-monopoly laws. They aren't allowed to have that my different models produced under the same manufacturing name. They can however, create a "separate" manufacturer, call it a luxury division, and sell all the models that they intended to. This is why when you go to the Honda dealership and ask for parts for an Integra they have to cross reference a lot of the parts. It's a technicality they follow to adhere to the anti-monopoly laws.
This is partially to blame for GM having Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Saturn(had) and Ford has Lincoln and Mercury(had).
And Nissan just became Datsun's new namesake back about 30 years or so ago. Slightly different circumstances than Acura/Honda but you get the idea.
