Update! 1/9/13. So I finally attempted to wrap my sunvisors myself.
I have decided to go with black suede for the visors because I feel like it'll complement the black tween on the headliner more than just have all of it one type of fabric.
When thinking about wrapping the visors, I realize I would have to sew and thought why not try out red stitching as well then?
Sewing is hard as f***! LOL I tried to sew it by hand and well its what you would expect. crooked stitches and that's that s*** I don't like.
Issues with different methods of wrapping the sunvisors .
- sewing the fabric with first and slip it on like a pillow case onto the visors but then I really wanted to use the spray adhesive so that the fabric will be held on tight unlike the stock vinyl wrap where it is sagging.
- wrapping it first with the adhesive and sew by hand around because I doubt it will fit onto the sewing machine with the bulkiness of the visors. Plus one side wont be stitched.
Here are some pics.
I can honestly say yeah its decent for my first time ever trying to sew and it is obviously better looking than stock but the crooked lines kills me as I am more meticulous and anal about my work.
Sooooo.yeah.. I will be attempting to rewrap it again because obviously I am not satisfied with the results.
I thought about doing it with black threading but "go big or go home" right? If I'm already doing this I rather do something I realllly like.
After thinking, discussing different methods with my female friends. ( sewing is such a woman's job LOL jkjk
)
I will sew it like a pillow case method all around. At first I was thinking how the hell would you sew it around through the curves and what not but figured it out. Will be sewing the stitches first on two separate pieces of the fabric then I will be sewing it together. Then tailored to fit the visors of course. Do this for the 3 sides of the visor (bottom and two sides) and will be sewing the top side by hand because the top side you rarely see it when installed. If I feel like it, I will be spraying the adhesive in first and then slip it on before it drys so I can have some time to maneuver and adjust accordingly. If anything, I figure I rather have straight stitches than a sagging fabric anyday
Welps stay tuned. Sewing101 session will resume next week haha
