Would these even be worth it?

1. I hate "stage" references because they are not finite. I wish companies would stop referring to cams universally in stages and use real terms like lift and duration etc

2. vtec is overrated. honda was not the one to invent it or the first to implement it. that was actually fiat in the 60/70's. HONDA was just the first to use on such a mass scale. the only reason the vtec engines make more power is not because of vtec. it's because the heads flow so damn well. vtec is more of a process than a power adder. it's the combination of head flow(cfm) and the aggressive profile of your high cam's lobes that generate you power. that's why i hate when people make reference to vtec as being "like a small turbo"

3. I'll elaborate as to why i hate piggybacks. they lie to the ecu... it's not a real "tune" it adjusts the ecu's perceptions of air coming into the motor in which case it adjusts fuel and timing. this is a bad thing to do since you aren't directly controlling the fuel nor the timing. th ecu typically freaks out and f***s with your timing when you do this. that's just one of the many reasons i do not like them. now a days there are so many "real" ways of tuning your car that are affordable. so no i'm not advocating you go buy some overpriced hondata nonsense either or an aem standalone for your street car. but do not put that piggyback nonsense on your car either.

Piggy backs are also waste if money unless your going all out and your pockets are the size of Rick Ross's stomach. But if I can get at least 180hp out of an Ls I'm happy

180hp or 180whp

either way good luck acheiving that without forced induction and/or a vtec head conversion and upgraded compression.

completely built balls to the walls ls's are lucky to break 170whp all motor...... and for the money invested in them you could've had a k24

OP as a rule of thumb, always upgrade the valvetrain when upgrading cams. The brian crower stage 2 street cams say they can be used with stock itr valvetrain, however its at the absolute limit for the springs, how much would you trust running on a valve spring at its absolute limit?

i've heard some people say you can use aftermarket cams on stock vavletrain components to a degree as long as you don't go past the stock redline. me personally... i upgrade valvetrain regardless

this is true, for skunk2 stage 1 tuner cams and pretty much stage 1 cams in general. But, fuck that.

If you can only get 180hp from forced induction of an Ls something isn't right. But yeah I just found it interesting that it said stock recommended but I've seen what junk2 stage 2 cams can do to a stock valve train...
