Got my first Autocross event coming up on the 18th and 19th in Knoxville. Pretty excited. I'm running my teg (of course) and got two buddies going as well. One's running his Lancer O-Z Rally and the other's running his 350Z.

Bring sunscreen, tire pressure gauge, tire pump, gloves, helmet, license, water, tools, a tote to hold everything, a cool hat like Raiden in Mortal Kombat, comfy driving shoes, make sure your battery tie-down is tight, and a pair of balls.

Play with tire pressures to see where you're at, remove your spare tire and other useless shit in the rear and put about 3-5 more pressure in the rear tires than the front to help oversteer a bit. Check the contact patch on the tires after you run along with your pressures to see your best pressure setup. If your front end is sliding, possibly not enough air pressure so your sidewall is rolling over and washing out the front.
Videos are really helpful to review between runs, if you have time; it really helps you figure out where you can, or have pushed it harder through a turn

Good luck, I went last weekend.

Thanks for the advice, I'm really looking forward to this! One thing, I know they inspect the vehicle prior to racing for safety issues. Would my ABS light being on cause any problems with that? My brakes still work fine.

HAHAHA!!! Also don't forget to remove all loose items in your car. Apparently they fly around and hit shit.

You're good. It's a very light inspection. They just check the hatch and under the hood

Also, I'm sure someone will ride along with you the first run you do, pay attention to everything they say. And walk the course, can't stress how much that will help. At least for me.

For tech as long as everything is tied down and won't fly around I think you'll be fine.

no they wont ride with you unless you ask someone. I suggest asking someone who is already done for the day who looks experienced. i did this my first auto x ever and it was a huge help.

I guess it's the size of the group? The first time i went out it was pretty small, and they did that for all the new drivers. I wouldn't have done as good as i did if i didn't have the tutorial.

It's probably based on where you go. You have to ask one of the douchers for ride alongs here

Nor Cal UFO is a reletivly large group but when they have overlapping dates with SCCA Solo 2 then its a small group, i went oon one such day.

Haha I always take it seriously and take any advice I can from more experienced people. No worries there :)

Yup! Class E Stock, just like my buddy in his Lancer. One of my other friends just came through work today and asked me about the event. He seems interested and may participate. He's got an LS that he did a 5-speed swap on and he's got it built pretty good turbo'd with 6psi. He's gonna be in the Street Tire Modified class if he goes.
