The guy dropped off the motor yesterday so I'm buying parts cleaner and cleaning a removing parts that I won't need today with any luck I'll have most of it done by tomorrow.

He mentioned that I wouldn't have to purchase a new motor mount that I could used the whole mount off of my motor does anyone know anything about that?

Your car being a gen 2 i cant confirm whether theres a slight difference in the mounting posts. Theres actually like 5 and if theres no difference you can reuse yours if theyre not torn. If any are worn down or torn you should replace them while the motor is out.

I have to do my hair tonight (yeah I know, lol) so I stopped a few minutes ago but the intake side is pretty much done, I need to remove the manifold and do a quick scrub nothing remotely hard, the front however will be a lot. It has a large amount of build up so it could take some time, the gasket on the pan looked as if it may of been leaking so while I was getting cleaner today I ordered a new one. I have a little money left over so I'm going to get a price on a new timing belt and water pump they are both exposed so changing them won't be a stretch. Will also change the thremostat, I talked to the sales guy at autozone and he was willing to swap the parts I bought for my original motor and give me the ones for the new one since they are unused.

Girl gets dirty and does her hair. lol I prefer oe for most of those parts just with the history ive seen in parts and the difference in quality. Not talking hypothetical differences, first hand experiences with other peoples vehicles. I bought a timing belt and water pump through acuraoemparts.com at a discounted price. But some of the aftermarket ones last. Hopefully your oil pan gasket comes off easy otherwise be prepared to put in lots of elbow grease and time scraping it off, just a heads up. Use foaming engine cleaner/degreaser for the block, itll make the clean up so much easier.

This is where I'm at with the motor, it's not a very good picture for that I apologize. I'll try that I have limited resources for cleaning and no hose.

My friend that can get me my oil is giving me good info for the accessories I need so I'm not concerned about quality if he says their good then they are.

Yea its your decision im just weighing in. When money is tight you have to make some compromises. Looks good so far. The foaming degreaser should only be 4-7 dollars at the autoparts store and it works real well. But the directions did say to hose it off after so that might be a pain. Could try a squirt bottle (i used it once) and clean carefully. Or spot clean it, with gloves of course and proper precautions.

i bought a wire attachment for my drill and used that. works a lot faster and easier. wear a mask though because breathing in anything of that sort is very unhealthy. then wipe it with paint thinner and spray the color of your choice on the block/head! Just my opinion haha

Status update. Once I got home from work I went over to autozone to pick up the gasket I ordered and swap the thermostat as well as the gasket for that only to realize once I got it home that I need the one I had originally (hopefully they wont be too mad at me when I go swap it yet again). I bought more cleaner also got some neat little cleaning brushes.

Here's how the engine turned out not perfect but much better than it was! =)

I also pulled both manifolds and taped them off with painter's tape.

I mentioned earlier that the oil cap was leaking when I looked at the car I found out why, I was missing a large section of the plastic so the seal was exposed! The motor also had a crappy FRAM filter, eww.

I also noticed this yesterday but took a picture today, this motor has definitely been pulled apart before, hmmm.

And lastly TEA BREAK! I love my green tea!

Oh almost forgot to mention that the exhaust ports were all really clean unlike mine that were white and burnt. the intake ports were really clean too as well as the valves were nice and clean too! No deposits on the side I was looking at. Drained the oil I'm going to replace that tomorrow. Does anyone know if it's ok to lay the motor on the timing side while I remove the pan?

I would say not cuz thats a lot of weight to put on parts that cant support it. You might have to rent a hoist unless u know someone you can borrow from. Id also suggest replacing whatever o rings and seals that normally leak while they are easy access. The o ring for the breather chamber is one i just replaced, theres one on the timing side where the pulleys are but not sure exactly where or what its called right now (another one i have to replace), theres nothing on the front and then the rear main seal on the trans side. Cant think of any others.

Looks plenty clean. Look at that mess you made on the floor. lol Doesnt sound like you had trouble getting that intake gasket off. Lucky, we took 2 hours scraping mine off, in the car.

Oh and this cam seal plug leaks every few years and has to be replaced, yet another one im about to do. It doesnt confirm whether it was pulled apart or not. Regular maintenance.

The seals are usually super cheap. The o ring on the breather chamber cost maybe 1 or 2 bucks i think. In regards to affordability, think of it this way.. a few more bucks not to worry about it for years and doing the work later when its in the car for something that only cost dollars in parts. Yeah it was of work involved just to change that 2 dollar o ring. lol x.x
