What the hell?

So I knew the previous owner had ducktaped the shifter but what the hell is this? Did he break/cut the OEM shifter?

I've noticed some gears are hard to go in sometimes, clutch feels good. Maybe the shifter bushings?

And he had this wedged on top with ducktape.

There's another piece that bolts onto the round thing.

Lol. Me too. When I removed the duck tape to see that threadless top I just stopped and said what the fuck is that.. Pulling hard coming out of second I almost ripped the knob off that shit.

The aftermarket shift knob bolts onto that collar. But the collar is just wedged onto the shift lever the duct tape making it a tighter connection. Try changing the trans oil and see if that improves the gear changing.

Cutting the threads off of OEM shift lever to make the shifter lower and to use cheap aftermarket knobs is VERY common. I have seen that a bunch of times. I always thought it was stupid, because if anything I want the shifter higher for comfort, but to each their own. I'm not about that hard parker life. Just replace the shift lever, change your transmission fluid, and go from there.

No the actual lever as in the metal. I have the OEM knob. This is the contraption the previous owner has rigged. I just retaped it better. But he was nice enough to leave the OEM knob in the glove box.

Looks like shit is what it looks like, haha @ the auto stang. Pretty sure they were too lazy to just install a new shifter. Hopefully will fix this soon, will change the tranny fluid next Thursday. Who carries the amsoil?
