what is the best synthetic oil

i've been running petro synthetic with 20% lucas synthetic. i went with petro because i couldn't decide what synthetic oil is the best for my 1992 ls.:???: i heard amzoil is great as well as royal purp and quaker. any opinions, or general knowledge on this would be great.

I think its a personal preference thing more than anything. I run Castrol Edge. I like it I want to say I feel the difference but I'm sure thats just like a placebo effect.

This thread will be disaster due to differing opinions, with that said, don't run noname brands, I've spun bearings because of cheapness and being peddle happy on cheap oil, it breaks down faster, use a name brand, I run valvoline

ive been running royal purple for the last 2 years awesome. i would reccoment.

i hope i don't start a dispute over oil just lookin to see what the popular preference is... so i can make an educated choice for my next oil change. i just want whats best for my car

I use Amsoil and Im also an Amsoil Dealer.

i always use mobil 1. It is pretty darn good but only IMO

and no offense BUT NEVER EVER do what amsoil says on it can last 12k... do regular 3k
no offense to 4dr94teg but i know a few ppl who followed what it said of it lasts 12k but the one lady sludged her engine up in 65xxx miles.
anything name brand is good i.e. mobil 1 castrol royal purple etc etc but dont use napa or walmart

not bashing amsoil cuz it is good as long as u do oil changes each 3or5k

The advertised Amsoil intervals DO have exceptions (regardless, I still wouldn't trust it) and they even list "sludge-prone" vehicles on their site, and that for those that are, they recommend following the manufacturer's specified interval.

3k is a short amount of time between oil changes i usually go for 4.5-5k just because of the cost of synthetic. but since i'll be doin my own oil changes from now on... maybe 4k isn't that bad. 3k's better but to often for me lol.

They say synthetic can go to 6k, but I run her hard, everyday, so I personally do 3k just for piece of mind, but 4k is still well within the safe range

even though i use synthetic i do an oil change every 3k......iim sure it could def last longer ....but it gives me piece of mind
