timing belt lifespan

If you don't know when it was done, I would make replacing it #1 on the list. There is way too much at risk with little benefit in pushing your luck. Even if you do a visual inspection, it can prove unhelpful. Plenty of visually sound belts have snapped with no warning.
I agree. I bought mine on 4/20 and mine snapped 2.5 months later. Not a cheap fix. Bent 1 valve

I was paranoid mine was gonna bust, I bought the car at 105,000 miles. Got it done at 109,000. We knew nothing about timing and didn't want to remove engine mounts (We don't have air wrenches), so we paid the local shop to do it.

Water pump, timing belt, and a new motor mount, $1000 later and my car was back on the road. If your radiator is leaky, expect it to BUST after changing a water pump. :(
You don't need air wrenches or special tools to do a timing belt job... Just a jack, ratchets with sockets (deep and shallow) breaker bar, and a torque wrench if you dont trust the "good n tight method"
