The best synthetic oil

The 75k figure just comes from a personal preferance.
I'm just saying a well maintained car will not have sludge at 75k miles. Or 120k for that matter. Sludge is mainly just caused by negligence. So switching to synthetic shouldn't be a huge concern if your car is well maintained.

I just couldn't understand even why someone would want to switch to synthetic on a car that isn't maintained very well. If they aren't changing the cheap shit oil on a regular basis, then what would make them change the more expensive oil regularly?

i couldn't agree more. Sludge is caused by not taking care of your engine in the first place not running conventional oil for a long time.

Yeah I dunno waht's the problem. Synthetic was invented by the Gods, it's such a heavenly oil.

On my Jetta, I changed the oil only a few hundred miles after I switched to Royal Purple.... Now i'm in need of another and not planning on anything other than the beautifull purple goodness created by Royal Purple.

You sir, couldnt be more correct. The horror stories that Ive heard about Royal Purple seem to be the only bad stories about synthetic oil. I refuse to run it. If Ive got a car with 300k miles, I promise you there will be no sludge built up with even conventional oil.

A friend of mine builds motorcycle roadracing engines. He has told me over and over that Royal Purple is great for releasing the last couple of horsepower from a built motor, but that that increase comes at the cost of crank and main bearing replacement twice per season. That is certainly not worth it for my daily driver! To me, engine oil's job is to protect all the internals from friction and wear, NOT to increase horsepower.

so far I've only used Mobil 1 fully synthetic and I can tell the difference between it and conventional oil.

I have changed all cars purchased to full synthetic. I just change oil more often at first to clean out motor and then do regular oil changes. two integras, two camaros, and my wifes civic i havent had any problems at all.

I use whatever is the cheapest.

I've tried Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Castrol Syntec etc. My motor isn't in the best of condition and it normally doesn't matter what oil right now.
