i had pepboys do my alternator a month or two back and tonight the belt just up and broke off.
wtf pepboys.
any ideas of what to do?
the belt was in great condition, no cracks or anything.
cant do anything cause they are closed right now, gonna head to the store tommorow, hopefully they respectfully fix their mistake.

Was it only the alternator that was replaced? I don't think they'll take responsibility for a snapped belt if it wasn't replaced along with the alternator. They'll probably tell you it was wear and tear and chalk it up to being your fault for not replacing it with a new belt and reusing an old one.

At least it's not a T-Belt. Why would any one take there car to Pep Boy for service?
This...alternator is simple to replace. I could have mine done in 30 minutes and I've never replaced it before. Lol. Replaced them on 3 other cars though.

Lol pepboys, that was your first mistake.
And like Joe said, did they replace the belt also, or no?

Doing the belt is easy...doing the alt itself is a bitch. Gotta drop the Axel..its a mess.

Meh. They say you "have to" pull the tire and axle for the DA too. They are wrong lol, I've done plenty without pulling the axle.

Yup. Done it a handful of times, never pulled the axle....or wheel for that matter.
You just gotta know what ways to twist and turn it lol. I do unbolt the intermediate shaft tho just so that part can be moved around as needed. Takes like 20 min start to finish for me.

i honestly hated trying to take the alternator out and just got frustrated with it and just took it to pepboys for them to get it done, i know i couldve had it done but i was just low on time.
the belt was not replaced with the alternator but it couldve been their mistake as how it just up and flew off.
they offered me a free tow to pepboys and to "look at it" but im not trusting them.... -.-

Uniqueness defines
They may have tightened it more than it was before, and since its an old belt, it was probably close to.its end, the extra tension was all that was needed to snap it. Thats my guess.

Btw, would an aftermarket alternator be 'bigger'? Like harder to move it around the engine bay ? Since its meant to put out more power...?

wow..everytime i read up on alternator replacement, the axle has to come out...either way, from what dlo said something w/ that driver side axle has to move, even if it's just the inter. shaft...i'm sure just knocking it out of the hub is suffice in removing it
