Does it matter f you switch from regular gas to premium? I've always wondered about this. Not too mechanically inclined so would like to know. I'm sure you guys get that question all the time. Does regular burn faster then premium?

If you have a vTec motor you're supposed to run premium. If you do not then just run regular. You should not see significant differences putting premium in an LS motor. People will say they feel more power running premium, but any changes would be so insignificant you wouldn't feel it. There was a similar thread about running premium, i'm sure you can find it with a quick search..

The higher the octane rating, the more resistant the gas is to igniting. You need that in high compression/boosted/nitrous motors to combat pre-ignition (knocking) which is the fuel igniting before the piston has full compressed the air/fuel mixture and the spark plug has fired.

If your motor doesn't need the higher octane, no real advantage in running it.

I have a 2000 GS model. My manual says to use a minimum of 86 Octane, and suggest using a fuel containing detergents. It also recommends not using a gas containing more than 10% ethonal or 5% wood ethonal (if memory serves me correctly).

if your car requires premium per the owners manual/instrument cluster/gas cap.... then use it.. and nothing else... this will ensure that your higher compression motor ignites/detonates at the correct time.. and the motor will run as it should.

If your vehicle is stock.. and doesnt require premium... then dont use it ... as it will not benefit you.

It says to use a minimum of 86 octane, not premium. I was like "Wait, at one point in time 86 octane was the premium?!" I didn't even catch that you said 2000. Anyways.

Non-vTec = 86 octane, not a problem because I think the lowest sold is 87.
vTec = 91 octane.

The lowest I can find here in WA is 87. Recently drove from PA back here to WA and in the midwest you run into some lower octane fuels. But yeah, the manual even says that while you can use premium, there won't be any increase in performance or efficiency.

If it says premium give it that. If you run something else it will screw things up overtime. Like your injectors.
