youre goin to want air tools, and alot of time. If you want it fully polished, start off with a coarse paper to get the casting marks out. then your gonna want to work your way up from coarse to fine paper then after thats all done. Polish it. It can be done, it has been done. But i dont think its worth it.

i suggest you start off with something relatively small. possibly a throttle body or even an intake manifold.

once you see how much work is involved then i think you'd probably think twice about doing something of this magnitude on the engine block and transmission. and if you did actually complete it... i doubt you would want to drive it...

thats a good idea. I was gonna polish my rims but decided to try my valve cover first.

I polished a set of HX's.. and let me tell you this.. I probably had about 15 hours into those 4 wheels.

To try to make the motor/tranny shiny, it will take so much work, to where it's not even worth it because it will be nearly impossible to keep it clean.

Instead, you can clean it and keep it clean. Once a month I like to get 2 cans of foamy engine cleaner and go to town with a power washer. Check it out...

The simulated C/F was painted.

I started off by priming the valve cover with a metal-etching primer. I then used red engine paint. I let the paint dry, and masked off the sides. What I did was, I painted the top section of the VC, along with the spark plug cover black. I then used rubber shelf liner and sprayed silver over it to make it appear as carbon fiber. You can use any colors really, be creative. You can get the shelf liner at Walmart.

I'll be doing this on my car (but professionally) when it comes time to do the paint and body work. It's going to be more of a yellowish color to look like carbon Kevlar. The hood, roof and hatch will be done like this. I would love to get the REAL deal, but a Kevlar hood and hatch is not like your every day run off the mill part, same goes with the roof skin. It will be clear coated over with the rest of the car, so I won't have to worry about gel coat imperfections, and worrying about the composites getting damaged by the sun like all C/F hoods that get beat on by the elements.
