Secondary Butterflys?

Okay, so there's Vtec and then there's the secondaries that open and they open at 5.9k ish and if you look at your intake manifold that secondaries is just like a little 3/4" thickish plate sandwiched in the middle of the manifold and rumor has it, if you remove that plate it's almost like your car with the secondaries but constantly....anyone ever tried this and call BS or is this true?

It makes sense, but I've thought that before...any experiences?

the runners aren't that short in aftermarket. at that high of an rpm the shorter runners help deliver air faster.

So is there really an upgrade then from a OEM gsr IM? I mean yeah you can get blox or skunk2 or what not but is it worth the money since the GSR one is obviously designed speficically for the gsr for power?

Correct. you really shouldn't replace the intake manifold until you're pushing a lot of power... Bolt-on's don't give you enough of a reason to upgrade, no. I'm pretty sure you'll still loose power if you put an aftermarket IM on when you just have I/H/E.

Don't remove them. Like Kutcha said, the manifold is fine unless you plan on doing some internal work or atleast some aftermarket cams

I do actually plan on this summer fixing the seats in my dsm and using it for a daily and tearing the gsr apart and doing some cams and such and some misc. other things but when I do that a IM would be beneficial?

i dont know about "losing power with an im with only i/h/e." i know of a FEW of my friends who have either bought a skunk2 or the edelbrock performer x and it wakened up the car a lot.. and no, thats not the butt dyno. it was on a real dyno. i would only suggest getting the i.m. after getting really good bolt-ons, nothing half ass or anything like that.

At the very least you will need to have some tuning done (obd1 conversion with a chip, safc, other piggyback,etc...) to keep from leaning out. Why not just invest in a tb first and then get an im after your'e will to get some cams and cam gears.
