That's what I did. As soon as I saw the temp gauge shoot up to hot, I pulled over and killed the engine.

That urn on the heater trick works unless you have steamed out most of you water, ..... no water.....no cooling. at that point you have to stop, unless you hate your car and love to walk in the heat

You can stop. Check if you got water/fluid. if you dont have water/fluid. Sit with ur car off but put the heat on. it will keep a fan rolling which will cool down your car. So your able to get somewhere without $$$ for a tow (thats if you aint got someone to bring you water or w/e you need.
