Ported stock intake manifold vs. Skunk 2

Thanks for the help guys. When I was home this weekend I ended up getting what I believe is a first gen blox one from a friend. It is pretty near to runner size but just without butterflys. This should do the trick I'm looking for since my power goals are pretty mild.

Unless you have at least ITR cams that isnt going to be an upgrade so i would consider that in your plans if you havent. I wouldnt even install it until the cams are going in and youre just about ready for a tune.

I'm looking for ITR cams. Waiting for Hmotors to get another shipment. They are my go to for JDM parts. I also want to go Crower stage 2 but I'm back and forth. Will I have to get stronger valve springs if I go anything more aggresive than an ITR cam?

I already plan on doing valve seals and lapping the valves.

I would defer to the manufacturers recommendation. Even with the itr cams its highly recommended to upgrade your valve springs to itr. However, many claim that if you arent revving past stock redline (assuming gsr head/valve train) you will be fine. Fine is true but fine basically means you should be good but theres always that risk factor. The bare minimum if you do upgrade is to get itr intake springs and move your gsr intake springs over to exhaust side.

Ive seen a couple sets of itr cams on craigslist recently so id browse there and forums. HMO can take a few weeks to get a new shipment in if they even get cams alone available. Havent seen them list cams in the used section in a long time. Have you?

I saw one set a couple months ago. It was gone pretty quick though.

I'm going to keep it at 7500 redline. One cause balancing the rotating assembly is almost $500 and two it is safer in my opinion than taking it all the way to 8. And I've seen dynos on lsv with my tune and it drops off power around 7000. It still pulls but definitly not full horsepower.

Typical ebay/craigslist horses***. B16 is b16.. itr is itr. They cant be one and the same. Should be obvious those are just b16 cams.

Is your build lsv or gsr? On a healthy motor you should be fine revving to redline. Thats how honda built it. Even a gsr pulls power to 7600. Just as a reference you cant judge your build by someone elses. Thats how i understood it so if you meant you saw your dynos then i fully understand. Odd that you drop off at 7k though.

It is someone elses dynos on my tune is all. That's what I figured and I was pretty confused. It is an LSV with a gsr head.

So I guess stock head it is. Besides seals and lapping the valves. If I find a ITR valvetrain then I would probably get it but I cannot pay 500 dollars for a cam and 300 for valves to handle that cam. Very budget minded (NO ebay parts or knockoffs or hacks jobs) build here. Just looking to make more power than stock.

Why the hell would you pay 500 for A cam? I hope you meant cams but still... they sell for 250-350 in used sets. Sometimes u can find the valve train for sale too. The intake side should only cost around $90 new from delray acura.

Now im not very extensively knowledged with the range of lsv builds but i would think that even a bone stock gsr head on a ls block should rev in the same power band as the stock gsr. Something has to be wrong or very restricted if he's peaking at 7k. Im gonna go ahead and laugh.

Piston rings were dying out I'll admit that.

And yes i meant cams I happen to do that a lot.

In NH there isn't much for ITR part outs.

oooh.. burning oil? Bad rings will lose compression so its understandable. Definately has to fix that lol.

You might have luck finding a set for sale on a forum with someone whos willing to ship. I would not pay $400-500 for a set as you can find more aggressive cams for that price range.

Yeah smoked like a sailor on deadliest catch.

I will keep looking. If not then I will just find a used Crower stage 2 and hopefully have a deal on skunk 2 springs and retainers or some other brand I trust.
