im about to start building a poor man type r motor. is there any information you guys can give me? i started by buying a b16 head with no cams. a buddy of mine has a set of itr cams he will sell me for cheap. also im buying a bare gsr block. a tech at my work told me that i can use my ls crank to gain a lil bit more power. is there any information you guys can give me to help me out. thanks for the help.

the tech at my work said around 1500-2000 to build it. might be more depending if i use oem parts, like intake mani, the head parts, pistons, and stuff like that. does any one know how long the motor will last? i was told 25-30 k the most.

depending on how you maintain it and if its put together the right way.....should last longer than 25k

The motor lasting is impossible to say build it right and it will last as long as any gsr or ls. Ls crank will give you a longer stroke your gonna be basically making your 1.8 into more of a 1.9. A poormans yea you would need more agressive cams and a mild port and polish. Type r cams would do the job never heard of changing the cranks out though but I could understand why you would do it though. I woukd just put type r pistons and be good.

i always maintain my engine. lol. and it will be build the right way, due to the fact that the tech at my work has been building honda motors for years now. he had a fully built boosted 00 Si, that would break the tires lose in 4th gear. shit was nuts

Theres no reason why it wouldnt last longer then 30k build it right dont be a cheap ass and maintain it and the skys the limit.

i think the whole point is to use LS rods, those are different lengths, gives you a longer stroke, aka more torque/displacement.

and i'm not entirely sure if the GSR/ITR rods are even compatible with the LS crank (without machine work)

Lol I'm not even a tech and I can tell u they don't work. Commen sense says if the ls crank has a longer stroke then obviously u need long (ls)rods to compensate for the added stroke. Maybe ur tech is forgetful but I wouldn't let someone who doesn't know or remember dumb facts like that build my car. Either way good luck and make sure everything done right

I don't know that I'd let him build my motor if I were you. He should know that GSR and ITR rods don't fit an LS crank.
i ment to say he told me not to use gsr or itr rods. i didnt relize i wrote that, i was using my phone to write the last post that i posted. he told me to use ls, or eagle rods. my mistake.
